Hertel Meats Ltd. is looking for a Primary First Aid Attendant / Packaging Labourer to join our team.

The primary responsibility of this position is to act as the First Aid Attendant for the shift. When not performing first aid duties, the successful candidate will work in our Packaging Room.

We are looking for someone who is approachable, adaptable and organized, with strong attention to detail. This person must be comfortable dealing with workplace injuries, completing documentation and advocating for workers when needed.

Responsibilities

- Act as the primary First Aid Attendant during the scheduled shift
- Respond to workplace injuries and provide first aid as required
- Complete first aid records and other required documentation
- Follow up with injured workers and assist with return-to-work correspondence and documentation
- Communicate with supervisors and management regarding workplace injuries and restrictions
- Maintain first aid supplies and equipment
- Maintain confidentiality of employee medical and first aid information
- Follow WorkSafeBC first aid requirements and procedures
- Assist with creating and updating first aid and safety SOPs
- Work in the Packaging Room when not required for first aid duties
- Package, weigh and label products
- Follow food safety, sanitation and workplace safety procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Perform other Packaging Room duties as required

Qualifications
- Valid Occupational First Aid certification
- 1–2 years of First Aid Attendant experience preferred




- Experience completing first aid records and documentation
- Experience with return-to-work correspondence is an asset
- Familiarity with WorkSafeBC requirements and forms is an asset
- Strong written communication and attention to detail
- Comfortable dealing with injuries, blood and other bodily fluids
- Approachable and comfortable working with people
- Able to remain calm and qualified in stressful situations
- Confident and assertive when advocating for an injured worker, even when faced with resistance
- Able to follow instructions and established procedures
- Adaptable and able to change priorities quickly when a first aid situation arises
- Experience creating or updating SOPs is an asset

Work Environment This position works in a pork-processing facility. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a cool environment, around raw pork products, strong odours, machinery and wet areas.

Packaging work involves standing for extended periods, repetitive tasks and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Pay: From $21.25 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
