Duties

Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton (FMFCB) Engineering Department will be hiring multiple junior to intermediate engineers to either fill the role of a Naval Architect/Stability Engineer or a Hull Structure/Hull System Engineer.Duties as a Naval Architect/Stability EngineerAs a Naval Architect/Stability Engineer (Project Engineer Materiel), you will be responsible for various hydrostatic and hydrodynamic aspects of naval vessels. Your key responsibilities will include:

- Dockings and undocking's
- Incline experiments
- In-service monitoring of vessels’ stability conditions
- System design and development
- Maintenance and repair planning
- Technical problem-solving and troubleshooting
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
- Conducting trials alongside and at sea

Duties as a Hull Structure/Hull System EngineerAs a Hull Structure/Hull System Engineer (Project Engineer Materiel), you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and maintenance of naval vessels. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Structural analysis and design
- Materials selection and substitution
- System engineering
- Systems set to work
- Specifications development
- Fasteners and torque calculations
- Shock assessment
- System design and development
- Maintenance and repair planning
- Technical problem-solving and troubleshooting
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
- Conducting trials alongside and at sea

Both of the roles require strong engineering skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment. It is possible and expected that during the execution of work the two different roles will cross-train with each other for professional development and increase in breath of experience.Despite the title of the jobs, both of the roles are technical in nature and non-supervisory. They are NOT project management jobs. Intent of the process The intent of this process is to fill 4 EN-ENG-03 positions on an Indeterminate basis in Esquimalt, British Columbia. There are two different roles being considered for these positions and they are considered interchangeable for the purpose of this process. A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.

You need (essential for the job)

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture, marine engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

- Experience working as an engineering specialist in either marine structures, marine systems or naval architecture
- Experience with docking/undocking and incline of ships or submarines coupled with knowledge on ship/submarine stability theory and stability calculations methods

or Experience with hull surveys and hull repair, in particular related to structures on ships or submarines and experience with relevant hull systems such as but not limited to Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), fire fighting and damage control, black and grey water systems, domestic fresh water, etc on ships or submarines
- Experience in 2nd and 3rd line ship or submarine maintenance
- Demonstrating integrity and respect in a diverse and inclusive environment
