About the Role

Want to earn your refrigeration licence while working on equipment that actually matters? Join ESBE Scientific as a Refrigeration Apprentice and learn the trade hands-on, working under the direct supervision of a Certified Refrigeration Mechanic (CRM) on medical and laboratory refrigeration: medical fridges and freezers, ultra-low and cryogenic freezers, and other temperature-controlled lab equipment used by hospitals, laboratories, and research facilities across Ontario.

This is a true learning role. You will assist our CRM on service calls, build your skills toward certification and licensing, and grow into a licensed technician career with us. If you have a foundation in refrigeration or HVAC and the drive to learn, we will train the rest.

What You Will Do

- Assist the Certified Refrigeration Mechanic on installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs at customer sites and in our Markham service bay
- Learn to diagnose malfunctions, test and calibrate equipment, and complete repairs under direct supervision




- Help schedule and prioritize service calls to minimize disruption to customers' laboratory operations
- Respond to emergency repair requests alongside the CRM
- Learn professional customer service: instructing customers on proper equipment use and building solid relationships
- Study service manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer documentation across our product lines
- Follow all company and site safety procedures, including infection-control protocols in laboratory environments
- Work toward your refrigeration certification and licensing

What You Bring

Must have:

- High school diploma
- Basic knowledge of refrigeration systems: the refrigeration cycle, compressors, condensers, evaporators, metering devices, and controls
- Basic electrical knowledge (AC/DC, voltage, amperage, resistance, motors, relays, controls)
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and test instruments such as multimeters
- Strong troubleshooting instincts, attention to detail, and a genuine willingness to learn
- Professional, patient communication with customers, including in difficult situations
- Comfortable with computers and Microsoft Office
- Valid driver's licence and a clean driving record
- Legally authorized to work in Canada




- Ability to travel for day trips and overnights, work occasional extended hours.

Nice to have:

- Refrigeration or HVAC diploma, pre-apprenticeship program, or registered 313A/313D apprenticeship in progress
- Field experience with laboratory or medical fridges and freezers
- Experience with brazing and refrigeration service procedures
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Knowledge of electronic controls, sensors, and control boards
