RETAIL SALES + SEWING ASSOCIATE

Fabric + Flow is looking for a friendly, knowledgeable and hands-on Retail Sales + Sewing Associate to join our Edmonton Fabric Studio.

This role is ideal for someone who loves sewing, enjoys helping people and is comfortable working in a creative retail environment.

You'll spend most of your time helping customers choose fabrics and supplies, cutting and preparing fabric, keeping the store organized, and helping prepare the WORKROOM for classes and workshops.

Because we're a sewing-focused store, this isn't a traditional retail position. Customers regularly come to us with questions about fabrics, patterns, fit, construction and sewing problems. We're looking for someone with enough sewing experience to confidently talk through projects, make recommendations and help troubleshoot common issues.

You'll also have opportunities to support our marketing team by appearing in or helping create social media content — and, for the right person, potentially teaching future classes or workshops.

Our Fabric Studio is designed to be more than somewhere to buy fabric. We want customers to feel comfortable asking questions, exploring new materials and getting the support they need to make something they're excited about.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Customer Service + Sales

- Welcome customers and help create a friendly, approachable shopping experience
- Help customers select fabrics, patterns, notions and sewing supplies for their projects
- Explain fabric characteristics such as stretch, recovery, weight, drape and appropriate uses
- Make thoughtful recommendations based on what a customer is trying to make
- Help customers determine fabric quantities and project requirements
- Answer sewing questions and help troubleshoot common construction or fabric problems
- Process purchases and assist with point-of-sale transactions
- Help customers navigate Fabric + Flow's kits, patterns and product collections

Fabric Cutting + Store Operations
- Measure and cut fabrics accurately
- Prepare and label customer fabric purchases
- Restock and organize fabric, notions, kits and other products
- Maintain attractive and organized retail displays
- Help receive and prepare recent inventory
- Keep cutting, retail and customer areas clean and ready for use
- Help with regular store tasks such as inventory counts and product preparation

WORKROOM + Class Support




- Prepare the WORKROOM for upcoming classes and workshops
- Gather and organize fabrics, notions, tools and class materials
- Help prepare or assemble class kits when required
- Reset and organize the space between classes
- Support instructors and participants when appropriate
- Help ensure machines, tools and supplies are ready for upcoming programming

Content + Marketing Support Our marketing strategy is led by our Marketing Manager + Content Lead, but our store team plays an important role in bringing Fabric + Flow to life.

You may be asked to:

- Appear in short-form videos, photos or social content
- Demonstrate fabrics, sewing techniques or products
- Help capture simple behind-the-scenes content from the store
- Participate in product launches or campaign content
- Follow shot lists or creative direction provided by the marketing team
- Share interesting projects, customer questions or store moments that could become future content

You don't need to be a skilled content creator. You should, however, be reasonably comfortable around a camera and willing to participate.

SEWING KNOWLEDGE IS REQUIRED

This is an important part of the position.

You should already have hands-on sewing experience and be comfortable discussing sewing with customers.

We're looking for someone who understands areas such as:

- Working with woven and knit fabrics
- Reading sewing patterns
- Choosing appropriate fabrics for a pattern or project
- Basic garment construction
- Sewing machine setup and troubleshooting
- Needles, thread and common notions
- Seam and finishing techniques
- Stretch fabrics and elastic
- Common sewing problems and how to troubleshoot them

You don't need to know everything. We do expect you to be able to confidently help with everyday customer questions, recognize when something is outside your knowledge, and be willing to learn more about Fabric + Flow's products and techniques.

If you enjoy teaching or helping others learn, we'd love to hear about it.

Previous teaching experience is helpful, but not required.

EXPERIENCE + SKILLS

Required:

- Practical sewing experience
- Knowledge of sewing patterns, fabrics and garment construction
- Strong communication and customer-service skills
- Comfort working independently and as part of a team
- Ability to accurately measure and work with numbers
- Comfortable using or learning point-of-sale and basic retail technology

Assets:

- Previous retail or customer-service experience
- Apparel or garment-sewing experience
- Experience sewing swimwear, athleticwear or stretch fabrics
- Social media or content-creation experience
- Photography or video experience
- Teaching, coaching or workshop experience
- Experience with Shopify POS
- Familiarity with Fabric + Flow products or patterns

POSITION DETAILS Position: Retail Sales + Sewing Associate

Schedule: Part-Time

Location: Fabric + Flow, Edmonton The position includes a combination of weekday and potentially weekend shifts depending on store hours, classes and events.

This is an on-site position.
