Cook – Retirement Home (Ontario)

We are seeking a dedicated Cook to join our culinary team and help deliver exceptional dining experiences for residents in our Retirement Home. If you take pride in preparing high‑quality meals, enjoy working in a fast‑paced kitchen, and value teamwork, this role is an excellent fit.

About the Role The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appealing meals using standardized recipes and safe food‑handling practices. You will support smooth kitchen operations, maintain high sanitation standards, and contribute to a positive dining experience for residents.

When designated as Culinary Lead Hand (Charge Cook) during shifts without onsite management, you will provide workflow coordination and communication support within the food services department only. This internal role does not include supervisory or managerial authority.

What You’ll Do

- Prepare meals according to standardized recipes, production sheets, and dietary requirements
- Ensure meals are properly portioned, visually appealing, and served on schedule
- Support Dietary Aides and kitchen staff to maintain effective workflow
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment
- Follow all public health, food safety, and Retirement Homes Act requirements
- Interact courteously with residents and families regarding food service concerns
- Conduct safety and sanitation checks and report issues promptly
- When assigned as Culinary Lead Hand:
- Coordinate workflow during meal service
- Monitor kitchen safety and food‑handling practices
- Communicate concerns to on‑call management




- Ensure shift routines (prep, service, cleaning, closing) are completed

Qualifications

- Experience in volume food preparation (retirement, healthcare, or hospitality preferred)
- Food Handler Certification (required)
- CPR/First Aid Certification (preferred)
- Knowledge of the Retirement Homes Act and safe work practices
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team
- Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and resident‑focused service

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift, push, and pull moderate weights safely
- Comfortable working with hot surfaces, sharp tools, and commercial kitchen equipment

Pay: $20.00-$21.00 per hour

Experience

- Culinary: 1 year (preferred)
- cooking: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:
- Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
