About Parkland Courier

Parkland Courier Services is a family-owned transportation and logistics company providing courier, LTL, dedicated truck, warehousing and distribution services throughout Edmonton and surrounding areas.

We are looking for an experienced Safety & Fleet Manager to become a key part of our management team.

This is a hands-on transportation position responsible for H&S;, compliance, driver management, fleet planning, PM and the overall operational excellence of our fleet.

We are looking for someone who understands trucking from the ground up. The right candidate will be just as comfortable managing COR and NSC requirements as they are working with drivers, reviewing Samsara data, coordinating repairs or going into the yard to investigate an equipment concern.

ResponsibilitiesSafety & Compliance

- Manage and continuously improve the company's H&S; and compliance programs.
- Maintain COR requirements and audit readiness.
- Maintain all required NSC files and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable OH&S; and transportation regulations.
- Work with AMTA, WCB and other applicable regulatory organizations.
- Develop, maintain and enforce H&S; policies and procedures.
- Advise management and employees on minimizing safety and operational risks.
- Monitor HOS, ELDs, DVIRs and driver compliance.
- Maintain records of incidents, inspections, violations and corrective actions.
- Conduct and document collision, injury and near-miss investigations.
- Complete root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Organize and conduct H&S; meetings, orientations and training.
- Work with management to identify compliance and safety concerns.
- Intervene when unsafe activities, equipment or operating practices are identified.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies as required.
- Assist with WCB claims, modified duties and RTW programs.
- Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits.
- Stay current with applicable transportation, OH&S; and NSC requirements.

Driver Management
- Administer the safety/compliance portion of driver hiring.
- Review driver abstracts, qualifications and required documentation.
- Orient and train new drivers and employees.
- Conduct or coordinate road evaluations.
- Maintain driver qualification and compliance files.
- Monitor driver performance through Samsara.
- Monitor HOS, ELD, DVIR,



GPS and telematics data.
- Coach drivers on safe operating practices and company policies.
- Address recurring safety and compliance issues.
- Promote a practical and accountable safety culture.

Fleet Management
- Oversee the maintenance, safety and roadworthiness of company vehicles and equipment.
- Develop and manage PM schedules.
- Coordinate CVIPs, repairs and PM.
- Monitor DVIRs and ensure defects are addressed.
- Coordinate repairs with mechanics and outside vendors.
- Monitor downtime and work with Ops to maintain fleet availability.
- Maintain fleet maintenance and repair records.
- Review repair costs and identify recurring equipment issues.
- Assist with fleet planning, replacement and equipment decisions.
- Source and purchase parts, equipment and supplies as required.
- Manage relationships with repair facilities, parts suppliers and fleet vendors.
- Balance safety, cost and operational requirements when making fleet decisions.

Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in the transportation/trucking industry.
- Experience in transportation safety, compliance, fleet management or supervision.
- Strong working knowledge of COR.
- Transportation and/or COR audit experience.
- Experience with AMTA.
- Experience dealing with WCB.
- Solid understanding of NSC requirements.
- Working knowledge of OH&S; requirements.
- Strong understanding of HOS requirements.
- Experience with ELDs and DVIRs.
- Experience maintaining driver and fleet compliance files.
- Knowledge of CVIP, PM and commercial fleet compliance.
- Experience developing and enforcing H&S; policies and training programs.
- Strong computer and documentation skills.
- Proficient with MS Office.
- Valid driver's licence with an acceptable abstract.
- Strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.

Key Assets
- Samsara experience – ELD, HOS, DVIR, GPS, telematics, driver safety and reporting.
- TruckMate / Trimble TMS experience.
- Workhub experience.




- Commercial driving experience.
- Class 3Q DL.
- COR/NSC audit experience.
- Collision and incident investigation experience.
- LTL, P&D;, courier and/or general freight experience.
- Transportation H&S; certifications.
- Experience sourcing HD truck parts and working with repair vendors.
- Mechanically inclined with a practical understanding of HD trucks and commercial equipment – Journeyman certification is not required.

Who We're Looking For We are looking for a well-organized, practical and hands-on individual who wants to become a valuable part of our team.

This is not strictly a desk-based H&S; position.

You do not need to be a certified mechanic, but you should be comfortable around HD trucks and equipment. Being able to understand a mechanical concern, communicate effectively with drivers and mechanics, source the appropriate parts or repair and follow the issue through to completion is a significant asset.

You should also be comfortable working directly with drivers. This includes training and coaching employees, recognizing good performance, addressing problems when they arise and holding people accountable to company standards.

Samsara and TruckMate experience are significant assets.

Ultimately, we are looking for someone who can identify a problem, determine what needs to be done, take ownership and follow through until it is resolved.
