Penguin HVAC is looking for a skilled Sheet Metal Apprentice who wants to continue developing their sheet metal skills while learning the refrigeration and HVAC side of the trade.

This is not a position where you’ll spend every day installing ductwork on large construction sites.

Approximately 50% of the role will involve sheet metal and ductwork, including residential and light-commercial HVAC installations, renovations, equipment changeouts, custom transitions, plenums and fittings.

The other 50% will be hands-on HVAC training, working alongside experienced refrigeration technicians on heat pumps, air conditioners, air handlers, HRVs/ERVs, controls, commissioning and service work.

We’re looking for someone who:

- Is currently a Sheet Metal Apprentice, ideally 2nd, 3rd or 4th year
- Can confidently install residential/light-commercial ductwork
- Can measure, lay out and install fittings without needing constant supervision
- Understands transitions, offsets, plenums, takeoffs and basic duct design/layout
- Takes pride in clean, professional-looking installations
- Works efficiently and keeps the jobsite organized
- Has a valid driver’s licence
- Wants to become a more well-rounded HVAC mechanic rather than only doing sheet metal

- Heat pump and air-conditioning installation
- Refrigeration piping
- Brazing and pressure testing
- Evacuation and commissioning
- Electrical and controls
- Troubleshooting
- HRV/ERV installation and commissioning
- Residential and light-commercial service
- Air balancing and system performance

We’re looking for someone who already brings real sheet metal ability to the table, and we’ll invest in teaching you the HVAC/refrigeration side. The opportunity For the right person, the goal isn’t to keep you as “the duct guy.”

We want to develop someone who can eventually look at an HVAC project, understand the ductwork, refrigeration, equipment, controls and commissioning, and help run an installation from start to finish.
