Job Profile

Under the general supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor or designate, the Skilled Labourer performs a variety of manual duties to support the operation, maintenance, and cleanliness of a wastewater treatment plant.





The position is responsible for housekeeping and general upkeep of buildings, equipment, and grounds, assisting operations and maintenance staff with plant-related tasks, cleaning process tanks and equipment, and supporting safe, effective day-to-day facility operations.

As The Skilled Labourer, You Will

- Perform housekeeping, maintenance, and care of buildings, equipment, and associated facility areas to support safe, clean, and efficient plant operations.
- Assist Operations and Maintenance to perform activities to support the safe and efficient functioning of the wastewater treatment facility.
- Performs groundskeeping and exterior facility maintenance to support safe access, site security, and a clean work environment.
- Participate in workplace health and safety practices related to assigned duties to ensure a safe work environment.
- Performs other related duties consistent with the classification and operational requirements of the facility.
- Communicates effectively and exercises independent judgment in carrying out assigned duties in compliance with City and Division policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Your Education And Qualifications Include

- Minimum grade 10 education.
- Must have and or be able to acquire within 12 months of employment, a valid First Aid/CPR certificate.
- Experience performing general labour, housekeeping, cleaning, and/or maintenance or related duties.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and basic equipment to perform assigned duties.
- Experience working with property maintenance tools (lawnmowers, leaf blowers, weed trimmer).
- Must be capable of following both verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to use a computer and related software applications required to perform assigned duties.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work cooperatively as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts (including suppliers), contractors and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
- Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations, and procedures that are applicable to the position's area of work.

Conditions Of Employment

- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense, in accordance with the Police Record Check Protocol.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License.The successful applicant will be required to provide a Notice of Driver's License In Force document upon request.
- Must be physically capable of performing all the duties of this position, which may include, but are not limited to working outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions, working from heights, ability to lift between 25 to 50 lbs., and the ability to perform work in confined space environments (SCBA).
- Must successfully pass a respirator mask fit test (requires employee to be clean shaven at work) and complete confined space training.
- Must successfully pass a medical examination. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a medical assessment at the Occupational Health Branch if not previously completed.
