Alongside our marketplace, AD18 includes a Canadian Business Directory and AD18 Local, our local-business and editorial discovery platform.

We’re looking for a Social Media & Growth Intern who wants hands-on experience helping an early-stage Canadian platform build its audience through content, experimentation and data.

This is not a role where you simply schedule posts. You’ll help us test what actually gets people to notice, engage with and discover AD18.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Research social trends, audience interests and content opportunities
- Help plan and create approximately 2–3 social assets per week, with a focus on short-form video
- Develop hooks, scripts, captions and content around marketplaces, local businesses and Canadian discovery
- Help create Instagram Reels, Stories and other organic social content
- Test different formats, messages and creative approaches
- Help run small, structured growth experiments
- Review basic performance data and identify what we should repeat, improve or stop
- Maintain a straightforward content plan and weekly learning summary
- Participate in regular feedback and mentorship sessions The primary focus is social content and organic audience growth. You may also gain exposure to community growth, local-business discovery, marketplace strategy and other early-stage startup work.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

- Working directly with an early-stage digital business
- Turning performance data into real recommendations

You’ll receive regular feedback,



a midpoint review and a final placement evaluation. Where appropriate and permitted, completed work may also be used in your portfolio.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You should

- Be enrolled in a post-secondary program that can formally approve an academic or work-integrated learning placement
- Understand short-form social content and what makes people stop scrolling
- Write clearly, naturally and conversationally
- Be curious about marketing, startups, marketplaces, local businesses or digital media
- Be comfortable testing ideas and learning from the results
- Be organized and able to work independently in a remote environment
- Be open to feedback and willing to improve your work quickly

Experience with Canva, CapCut, Instagram, TikTok-style video, Reddit, LinkedIn or social analytics is helpful, but not required.

Previous professional marketing experience is not required.

PLACEMENT DETAILS

This is an unpaid academic/work-integrated learning placement.

Participation is subject to formal approval by your post-secondary institution and compliance with applicable employment standards requirements.

Academic or placement credit is determined by your institution. Required placement documentation must be completed before work begins.

Typical commitment is 8–10 hours per week for 8–12 weeks, with the final schedule structured around your program requirements.
