Our Prince George office is seeking a Structural Engineer-in-Training who is interested in developing experience across field review, structural design and building information modelling.

About the Position

We want to be transparent about how this position will begin. During the first few months, a significant portion of the role will involve supporting our project managers with field reviews, site assessments, Matterport scans and related documentation. This will include travel to project sites in and around Prince George and throughout northern British Columbia.

Most field assignments are completed as single-day trips within regular working hours. Overnight travel or work outside regular office hours may occasionally be required but is uncommon.

The successful candidate will also receive exposure to structural calculations and design work under the mentorship of our professional engineers. Over time, we expect the role to shift toward increased engineering and design responsibility. However, the balance between field work, design and BIM support will continue to depend on project and team needs.

This position is well suited to someone who sees field experience as an important part of becoming a capable structural engineer and who is willing to contribute wherever needed. The successful candidate must also be willing to learn Revit and support engineering and BIM production work. Previous Revit experience is welcome but is not required.

Responsibilities

- Perform structural field reviews and site assessments under the direction of a professional engineer
- Travel to project sites, gather measurements and observations, and document existing conditions
- Complete Matterport scans and other forms of site data collection
- Prepare clear, accurate and timely field review reports
- Communicate professionally with project managers, contractors, clients and other project participants




- Assist with structural calculations and analysis for timber, steel, concrete and masonry structures
- Prepare structural engineering documents, calculations and reports for review by a senior engineer
- Support the development of construction details and drawing packages for residential, commercial, institutional and industrial projects
- Learn and use Revit to assist with structural drawings and BIM production
- Assist with construction administration, including addenda, clarifications, site instructions and change notices
- Prepare structural assessment reports and other technical documentation
- Work in accordance with Access Engineering’s Professional Practice Management Plan and established quality-management procedures
- Support multiple project managers and balance changing project priorities

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering
- Registered as an Engineer-in-Training with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or eligible and prepared to obtain registration
- Foundational knowledge of structural engineering principles, load paths and building systems
- Familiarity with timber, structural steel, concrete and masonry design
- Working knowledge of the BC Building Code and relevant Canadian structural design standards
- Robust written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prepare organized, accurate and professional field documentation
- Comfortable working on active construction sites and travelling in varying weather and road conditions
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence, or out-of-province equivalent, with a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to work independently while recognizing when guidance or assistance is required
- Strong initiative, attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Willingness to learn and regularly use Revit as part of the position
- Competency with Microsoft Office
- Legally entitled to work in Canada

Assets

- Previous structural field review,



construction or site-assessment experience
- Structural design experience involving timber, steel, concrete or masonry
- Experience preparing field review or structural assessment reports
- Familiarity with structural analysis and design software such as S-FRAME, ETABS, SAFE, Mathcad, WoodWorks, MASS, SAFI or Tekla Tedds
- AutoCAD, Revit, BIM or Matterport experience
- Knowledge of Parts 3, 4 and 9 of the BC Building Code
- Experience working with contractors, architects or other consulting professionals

- Salary of $65,000 to $75,000 per year, commensurate with experience

Regular office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Field assignments may occasionally require travel or work outside regular office hours.
