Landscape Construction and Property Maintenance Supervisor

Wide Open Industries is seeking a dependable, experienced working supervisor to lead employees performing landscape construction, property maintenance, and seasonal snow-removal services throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The supervisor will organize daily work, assign duties, provide hands-on assistance, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards. Regular work includes patio-stone and hardscape installation, lawn and property maintenance, seasonal cleanups, and snow and ice management.

Responsibilities

- Supervise and work alongside landscape construction and property-maintenance employees.
- Plan daily work, assign duties, and communicate expectations to the crew.
- Review job details, site conditions, material requirements, and safety concerns before work begins.
- Oversee excavation, grading, base preparation, compaction, and installation of patio stones and hardscape features.
- Confirm that measurements, elevations, drainage, slopes, patterns, and finished work meet project requirements.
- Oversee lawn mowing, trimming, seasonal cleanups, and general property-maintenance work.
- Coordinate snow-clearing operations, including plowing, shovelling, salting, and site inspections.
- Respond to winter weather events during early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays when required.
- Operate company vehicles, trailers, compactors, masonry saws, snow-removal equipment, and other tools as required.
- Ensure employees follow safe work procedures and properly use personal protective equipment.
- Complete or review daily hazard assessments, equipment inspections, timesheets, job records, and incident reports.
- Train new employees and provide ongoing coaching and direction.
- Monitor employee attendance, conduct, productivity, and quality of work.
- Track materials, tools, equipment, and supplies assigned to each job.
- Inspect completed work and correct deficiencies before leaving the site.
- Communicate job progress, delays,



material needs, damages, incidents, and customer concerns to management.
- Maintain professional communication with customers, contractors, suppliers, and members of the public.
- Keep vehicles, tools, equipment, and job sites clean, organized, and secure.
- Perform other related supervisory and hands-on duties as required.

Requirements
- Previous experience in landscape construction, hardscaping, property maintenance, snow removal, or a related field.
- Previous supervisory or crew-lead experience is preferred.
- Practical knowledge of patio-stone installation, grading, drainage, base preparation, and compaction.
- Ability and willingness to perform physical work alongside the crew.
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 23 kg/50 lb.
- Ability to read measurements, follow job plans, and calculate basic material quantities.
- Robust leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to manage changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Valid driver’s licence and acceptable driving record.
- Experience driving a truck with a trailer is preferred.
- Experience operating snowplows and landscaping equipment is an asset.
- WHMIS, First Aid, and other applicable safety training are assets.
- Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and snow.

Working conditions
- Work at various job sites throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.
- Outdoor work in changing weather and ground conditions.
- Physically demanding work involving lifting, bending, kneeling, walking, and repetitive tasks.
- Exposure to construction noise, dust, vibration, traffic, and moving equipment.
- Variable winter hours based on weather conditions and customer requirements.

Position expectations The successful candidate must be comfortable balancing leadership with hands-on work. This is not an office-only supervisory position. The supervisor is expected to set the standard for safety, attendance, workmanship, productivity, equipment care, and professional conduct. Pay: $20.00-$27.00 per hour
