The City of Fredericton is seeking skilled fleet maintenance professionals to join its Fleet Services Division. Reporting to the Foreman, Fleet Services, the Service Technician is primarily responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on the City's transit fleet, with opportunities to work on other municipal fleet equipment as operational needs require. The successful candidate will utilize their technical expertise and previous experience to perform high-quality work at the journeyman level within the Truck and Transport & Heavy Equipment section.

Assignments may be provided through written or verbal instructions, and completed work is evaluated through testing and the operational performance of vehicles and equipment.

Essential To be considered for this position, applicants must demonstrate the following:

- Minimum prerequisite is Journeyman Truck & Transport Mechanic (Red Seal) certification OR finishing the final block training with demonstrated eligibility to challenge the Red Seal exam.
- Valid NB driver’s license, class V.
- Knowledge of standard practices and equipment of the Truck & Transport & Heavy Equipment mechanic trade(s); knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline and diesel engines and of mechanical repair methods applicable to a variety of fleet vehicles.
- A clear Criminal Record Check as well as a clear Driver’s Abstract, are required as conditions of employment.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered where they provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties of the position. - Five years of relevant experience in Truck and Transport & Heavy Equipment Repair field.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices of the trade.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to diagnose or trouble shoot engine and electrical problems.
- Must have complete set of tools to perform the work listed above.
- Knowledge of Motor coach and Transit/Bus fleets would be an asset.
- Knowledge of Fire Suppression Assets and equipment including pumps would be an asset.
- Knowledge in Snow removal equipment and attachments, along with material spreading controls would be an asset.

What You’ll Do

- Adjust, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair or replace parts and components of heavy equipment/trucks and other related components.
- Installation of electrical equipment and accessories including 2-way radios, pay terminals, cameras, and other associated technologies.
- Perform scheduled maintenance service such as oil changes, lubrications and tune ups and tire changes.
- Complete reports to record problems and work performed.
- Other related duties as required.

A Service Tech earns approximately $77,850.36 - $84,362.17 annually, including base pay plus a biweekly benefits allowance of $268.03 with additional value from pension and comprehensive benefits.
