Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant – Youth Transition & Employer Relations

Company: Infinity Health (A Division of the Chiniki Group of Companies)

Location: British Columbia & Alberta (Virtual/Remote)

Job Type: Fee-for-Service / Independent Contractor

ABOUT INFINITY HEALTH

Infinity Health is Canada’s largest First Nations-owned provider of rehabilitation services. We are expanding our vocational rehabilitation services across British Columbia and Alberta, with a particular focus on helping youth and young adults translate their strengths, interests, abilities, and lived circumstances into realistic education, training, and employment pathways. Our model is practical, collaborative, and outcome-oriented: consultants work directly with clients, families, schools, community partners, employers, and other rehabilitation professionals to move from assessment to an actionable vocational plan and, where appropriate, to employment.

POSITION OVERVIEW The Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant is not solely an assessment or job-placement role. The consultant will manage vocational files from initial referral through assessment, planning, skill development, employer engagement, and transition outcomes. The work requires strong clinical judgment, comfort working independently in a virtual workplace, and the ability to turn assessment information into concrete next steps for youth who may have educational, disability-related, psychosocial, geographic, or employment barriers.

The successful consultant will balance direct client work with program development and employer outreach. Some files will require structured vocational assessment and career exploration; others will require workshops, labour-market research, employment preparation, employer relationship building, accommodation discussions, or coordination with a multidisciplinary team.

CORE PROGRAM STREAMS

- QuickStart Initiative – Youth Transition

Support adolescents and young adults, including students transitioning from secondary school, to identify realistic career, education, and training directions. Consultants help youth understand their vocational profile, explore options, develop practical goals, and build a step-by-step transition plan.
- Conduct intake and vocational interviews with youth and, where appropriate, families, educators, and other team members.
- Administer and interpret vocational interest, aptitude, ability, work-value, and related assessment tools used by Infinity Health.
- Integrate assessment findings with school history, functional abilities, interests, barriers, supports, and regional labour-market realities.
- Develop individualized vocational and transition recommendations, including education, training, work exposure, and employment options.
- Provide career-planning education and practical coaching in goal setting, job readiness, résumé development, interviewing, workplace expectations, and self-advocacy.
- Indigenous Employment Excellence – Remote & Community-Based Employment

Work with First Nations youth and community partners to expand access to meaningful employment, including opportunities that allow individuals to remain in their home communities. Infinity Health provides cultural orientation and training; consultants are nevertheless expected to practise with cultural humility, listen to community priorities, and adapt vocational planning to each client’s context.
- Identify occupations and training pathways that can be accessed remotely or within the client’s region.

- Assess digital readiness and identify skill-development needs for remote and technology-enabled work.
- Develop or deliver practical virtual workshops on employability, digital skills, career exploration, and workplace preparation.
- Research employers, training providers, community resources, and labour-market opportunities relevant to individual vocational plans.
- Build relationships with employers interested in inclusive hiring, remote work, work experience, mentorship, or other employment pathways.
- Neurodiversity & Autism Career Network

Support neurodivergent youth and young adults, including autistic clients, to identify environments, tasks, and occupations that align with their strengths and support needs. The role includes both individual vocational planning and development of a stronger network of inclusive employers.
- Explore work preferences, sensory or environmental considerations, communication needs, routines, strengths, and potential workplace accommodations.
- Translate vocational findings into practical job-matching criteria rather than relying only on occupational titles.
- Identify and cultivate employers with demonstrated interest in neuroinclusive recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and retention.
- Support conversations regarding accommodations, workplace expectations, disclosure/self-advocacy, and successful transition into employment when within the consultant’s scope.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Manage an assigned vocational caseload and maintain timely contact with clients and relevant stakeholders.
- Complete structured vocational assessments and synthesize multiple sources of information into transparent, practical recommendations.
- Create individualized vocational, education, training, and employment action plans with measurable next steps.
- Conduct labour-market and training research specific to the client’s abilities, interests, geography, and employment goals.
- Provide one-to-one vocational counselling/coaching and facilitate virtual group workshops when required.
- Identify barriers to participation or employment and collaborate with the team on practical strategies, supports, accommodations, referrals, and resources.
- Develop and maintain an organized employer database, including employer contacts, industries, remote-work opportunities, inclusive hiring practices, and potential placement or work-experience options.
- Conduct proactive employer outreach and relationship management rather than relying solely on advertised vacancies.
- Collaborate with occupational therapists, rehabilitation professionals, educators, community partners, and other members of the client’s support team.
- Document services, recommendations, progress, barriers, and outcomes in a concise and timely manner. Although the model avoids unnecessary paperwork, accurate clinical and service documentation remains essential.
- Participate in case consultation, training, program-development meetings, and quality-improvement activities.
- Track meaningful outcomes such as completed assessments, transition plans, training engagement, employer connections, work experiences, job starts, and sustained progress toward vocational goals.

WHAT THE DAY-TO-DAY WORK MAY LOOK LIKE A typical week may include several client interviews or assessment sessions; interpretation of vocational testing; preparation of individualized recommendations; a virtual employability workshop; research into training programs or occupations; calls or emails with employers; consultation with an OT, school, family, or community partner; and concise file documentation. This is a good fit for someone who enjoys both clinical vocational work and outward-facing relationship development.

QUALIFICATIONS

- CVRP, RRP, or a comparable rehabilitation, vocational, counselling, disability-management, career-development, or allied-health background. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience in vocational rehabilitation, career development, disability employment, youth transition, return-to-work, employment services, or a closely related field.
- Experience working with adolescents/young adults and/or neurodivergent clients is strongly preferred.
- Ability to administer, interpret, or learn standardized vocational assessment tools and translate results into practical recommendations.
- Strong interviewing, counselling/coaching, case conceptualization, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop employer relationships, conduct outreach, or create employment opportunities.
- Comfort working virtually and independently while remaining responsive to a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple active files, follow-ups, and outcome targets.
- Knowledge of British Columbia and/or Alberta education, training, disability, community, and labour-market resources is an asset.
- Experience working with First Nations, Inuit, or Métis communities is an asset but is not required; Infinity Health provides cultural training and program-specific orientation.

THE PERSON WHO WILL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE

This position will suit a consultant who is curious, practical, relationship-oriented, and comfortable moving beyond assessment into implementation. You should enjoy talking with youth, translating complex information into understandable options, researching creative pathways, contacting employers, and following through until a plan becomes actionable. The role is less suited to someone seeking exclusively report-writing, psychometric testing, or passive case-management work.

CONTRACTOR MODEL & WHAT WE PROVIDE

- Remote delivery across British Columbia and Alberta.
- Fee-for-service independent contractor arrangement with flexibility based on referral volume and program needs.
- Orientation to Infinity Health’s vocational programs, workflows, documentation expectations, and assessment tools.
- Access to relevant vocational assessment resources and standardized/proprietary tools used within the program.
- Cultural orientation and ongoing support for work with First Nations communities.
- Clinical/program consultation and collaboration with the broader rehabilitation team.
- An outcome-focused model designed to keep administration proportionate to the service being delivered.

APPLICATION

Please submit a résumé and a brief introduction outlining your vocational rehabilitation experience, experience with youth and/or neurodivergent populations, familiarity with vocational assessment, and examples of employer engagement or job-development work. We are particularly interested in applicants who can demonstrate how they have moved clients from assessment and career exploration into practical education, training, work-experience, or employment outcomes.
