Company Description Uyyarvu is an incorporated nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and increasing access to mental health education and support. The organization focuses on addressing mental health stigma within Tamil, South Asian, and other marginalized communities, where cultural and social barriers can sometimes make it difficult to openly discuss mental health or seek support. Uyyarvu works to bridge these gaps by creating and sharing accessible, educational resources that empower individuals to better understand mental health and well-being.

The nonprofit also encourages open conversations and community engagement to help normalize discussions around mental health and seeking support. Volunteers contribute directly to these efforts by researching, developing, and sharing educational content and resources that help make mental health information more accessible and relevant to diverse communities.

Role Description The Volunteer Research or Content Assistant are remote, unpaid roles supporting Uyyarvu’s mental health education and awareness initiatives. Day-to-day tasks may include researching mental health topics from credible sources, summarizing findings, and organizing information into explicit, accessible formats. The volunteer will help draft, review, and refine written content such as articles, blog posts, guides, and social media copy aligned with Uyyarvu’s mission and tone.

Responsibilities may also include assisting with basic content management,



updating online materials, and collaborating with team members to ensure content is accurate, inclusive, and easy to understand. This role is well-suited for individuals seeking experience in research, writing, or nonprofit work while contributing to mental health advocacy.

Qualifications

- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex mental health topics in clear, respectful, accessible, and inclusive language.
- Strong writing and web content writing skills, with the ability to create engaging, accurate, and reader-friendly educational materials.
- Research skills and the ability to find, evaluate, and summarize credible information from reliable sources.
- Content management and content strategy skills, including the ability to organize, update, and plan digital resources effectively.
- Interest in or familiarity with mental health and wellness topics, with a commitment to reducing stigma and promoting mental health awareness.
- Strong attention to detail, including the ability to fact-check information, follow content guidelines, and maintain consistency and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team and incorporating feedback.
- Reliable internet access and the ability to work remotely and meet agreed-upon deadlines.
- Prior experience in research, nonprofit work, mental health, communications, or content creation is an asset but not required.
