The role is ideal for students looking for work between semesters or for grounds professionals seeking a change of pace. It involves outdoor work and use of equipment such as mowers, string‑trimmers, tractors, forklifts, and other heavy‑equipment tools.Typical ResponsibilitiesOperate rubber‑tired internal combustion engine vehicles from 1,800–5,500 kg G.V.W. with attachments such as post‑hole auger, rototiller, aerator, flail mower, rock picker, forklift, gang mower and front‑end loader.Operate vehicles up to 16,000 kg G.V.W., including a dump truck.Plan and organize work to ensure the safe and efficient performance of equipment and tasks; load, unload and deliver material.Operate material‑handling equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts and high‑reach trucks to load, unload from trucks and store and retrieve material.Set up and take down stages and risers as required.Inspect, perform routine servicing and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; report malfunctions andrepair requirements to a supervisor.May provide direction to assigned subordinates.Perform pre‑/post‑trip safety inspections in accordance with District policies; may be required to perform functions specified in a lower classification.Complete required forms.Drive District vehicles to and from job sites; perform related duties as required.Job Requirements – Knowledge, Abilities and SkillsPlan and coordinate work and ensure the safe, efficient and effective operation of machinery.Lifting and carrying equipment; perform manual labour.Communicate effectively in English and understand oral and written instructions.Mechanical aptitude and skill in the operation and servicing of equipment used.Acquire forklift certification and operate material‑handling equipment.Use computer software applications such as the warehouse information system and work‑order system.Knowledge of WHMIS, WCB occupational health and safety regulations and District safe work practices, policies and procedures.Knowledge of the National Safety Code and Highway Traffic Act.Read and understand simple blueprints, working drawings and sketches.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and others.QualificationsCompleted grade 12 or equivalent.Valid unrestricted class 5 BC driver’s license with a protected driving record.Relevant experience and training in the operation of light, mobile, self‑propelled equipment.Experience operating a tractor.Must be able to operate manual transmissions.Experience performing general labour in an outdoor grounds or parks workplace.Landscape maintenance and/or construction experience is an asset.This is a unionized position that offers a 37.5‑hour work week with an hourly wage rate of$28.56, plus a liberal benefit package including municipal pension, health, vacation and sick benefits.Only applicants selected for interviews are contacted.#J-18808-Ljbffr
