Post Office Assistant (Term)

to serve residents and businesses there. This is an

on-call, term position

offering hands-on work in a community-focused retail workplace — ideal for someone who already lives locally or is open to being part of this remote coastal community.

Day-to-day, you’ll be the face of Canada Post at the counter — helping customers with

postal products and services , sorting and distributing mail, and resolving delivery issues promptly. It’s a role that combines

customer service, cash handling, and mail processing

in a straightforward, rewarding setting.

About the Role: Post Office Assistant As a

Post Office Assistant , you’ll provide

counter services

to the local community using a customer-focused approach. You’ll sell postal products, process mail, assist customers with information and forms, and work through any delivery or service difficulties that come up. The role touches on everything from

retail sales and cash transactions

to mail sorting and general

post office accounting .

Because this is an

on-call position , flexibility is key. You’ll need to be available on a temporary, as-needed basis, which makes it a good fit for someone who values variety in their schedule. Canada Post operates on core values of

Benefits and Salary This position pays

$20.54 per hour . Canada Post is committed to an

Responsibilities Working at a small-town post office means wearing several hats. As a

Post Office Assistant , you’ll handle everything from serving customers at the counter to keeping mail sorted and moving efficiently. Each responsibility contributes directly to the

reliable postal service

that the Zeballos community depends on.

Sell

postal products and services to the public and local business community

Sort, distribute, and process

mail into appropriate classifications

Provide

customers with information, forms, and guidance as needed

Address

delivery and service difficulties to resolve problems thoroughly and quickly

Requirements / Skills The right candidate for this role is comfortable working with the public, has a solid head for basic accounting, and can handle the

physical demands of mail processing . Since this is an on-call position in a small community,

local residency

is preferred, though applicants from outside the area may be considered.

Education:

High school diploma or provincial equivalency and/or experience in business administration

Customer service experience:

Training and/or experience interacting with the public in a retail or service environment, including sales and cash transactions

Accounting knowledge:

Understanding of general or post office accounting systems

Physical fitness:

Able to lift mail containers of up to 50 lb, push or pull boxes, sort mail, and stand for extended periods

Flexibility:

Available for temporary, on-call work as required
