Our Chalk River Laboratories location is looking for a Chemical Technologist Student to join the Waste Processing Technologies Section, where you will support research and development activities focused on waste process chemistry, engineering technologies, and environmental sustainability.

All students applying for student positions at CNL must be returning to full‑time studies upon completion of their work term. Exceptions will be made for students who require a work term to graduate.

Field of Study: Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science and Engineering
Year of study: 2nd year or higher

What you will be doing!

- Conducting active and non-active laboratory experiments under supervision, including work with high-temperature equipment and pilot-scale setups.
- Preparing chemical solutions and samples, and coordinating analyses with collaborating laboratories.
- Participating in data analysis and contributing to preparing summary reports for internal and external publications.
- Collaborating and communicating effectively with team members, coordinating activities as needed.
- Performing general laboratory duties while following all safety procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

- Education




- Applicants should be enrolled in a Post-Secondary Education program in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering.

- Experience

- Basic laboratory-scale experiment experience.

- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Basic computer skills with word processing and EXCEL spreadsheet knowledge.
- Ability to learn under supervision to design experiments and develop procedures.

- Security Clearance Eligibility Required

- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

- Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
