If so, G. Douglas Vallee Limited is looking for a Civil/Structural Engineering Technologist to join their team.

This is an opportunity to work on a specialized portfolio of bridge and culvert projects throughout Norfolk County and surrounding areas, with approximately a 50/50 balance between design work and site involvement. You’ll contribute to projects from initial concept through detailed design and construction, giving you the opportunity to see your work progress from drawings to completed infrastructure.

The projects themselves are diverse. One assignment may involve the rehabilitation or replacement of a rural bridge or culvert, while another could involve a pedestrian bridge or the restoration of a designated heritage structure. Many projects require consideration not only of structural performance, but also the aesthetics, history and surrounding environment of the structure, bringing an element of creativity to civil and structural design.

Working primarily on municipal and government-funded infrastructure also provides exposure to an established area of engineering that is less dependent on the fluctuations of residential construction.

What They Offer

Compensation: $50,000–$90,000, depending on experience.

Work Arrangement: This position is primarily based in-office in Simcoe, ON, with site visit responsibilities throughout Norfolk County and surrounding areas. Some hybrid flexibility may be available for senior-level candidates, depending on experience and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare engineering designs and technical drawings for:
- Bridge rehabilitation and replacement
- Culvert rehabilitation and replacement
- Retaining wall rehabilitation and replacement
- Roadway and municipal infrastructure projects
- Develop plan and profile drawings, detailed sections,



and base plans using AutoCAD.
- Contribute to projects throughout the lifecycle, from initial concept and field investigation through design and construction.
- Prepare contract documents, construction specifications, schedules of items and quantities.
- Perform OSIM inspections on road network culverts and bridges.
- Conduct fieldwork including:
- Topographic and structure condition surveys
- Site visits
- Construction inspection and contract administration
- Interpret and apply municipal design standards, guidelines, and engineering specifications.
- Collaborate with engineers, technologists, technicians, clients, and municipal stakeholders.
- Assist with project coordination and maintain strong client relationships.
- Work independently and within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Qualifications & Experience

- Education in Civil Engineering Science or Technology, or equivalent industry experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (LT, Civil 3D, Revit, etc.).
- Experience designing and drafting: Municipal culvert and bridge structural rehabilitations or replacements, Municipal road works (e.g., servicing, plan & profile, road design) and Section and detailed drawings
- Experience with fieldwork, including detailed topographic site surveys and construction field inspections.
- Road construction experience is considered an asset, including exposure to excavation, backfilling and related construction activities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong client relationship and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply engineering design standards and guidelines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence with access to a reliable vehicle.
