The candidate will be responsible for providing creative leadership and direction to subordinate staff while promoting teamwork and integration between internal and external parties participating in cross-functional and cross program initiatives.
The candidate will be responsible for delivering survey, mapping and technical support services that meet legislative requirements and remain consistent with the City of Hamilton Mission and Vision while maintaining a balanced service/price/quality approach.
The candidate will be responsible for providing survey services, including engineering surveys, legal surveys and mapping services for Design and Construction projects, among other projects.
The candidate will be responsible for providing survey, mapping and technical support to Public Works division staff and other Corporate staff who require assistance or services.
The candidate will be responsible for managing and directing all Geomatic tasks and staff, including the production of plans, transfers, and control points.
The candidate will be responsible for establishing acceptable accuracy standards and managing the delivery of all digital mapping and Ortho Photography.
The candidate will be responsible for directing and managing the delivery of CAD standards, training and drafting services for Public Works and client departments.
The candidate will be responsible for leading and directing the Corridor Management program and serving as the primary technical authority for right-of-way occupancy, utility installation compliance, right-of-way encroachments, permanent road/alley closures, and road cut restorations.



The candidate will oversee the program and ensure compliance with relevant statutes, municipal by-laws, and provincial guidelines while working with elected officials, legal counsel, utilities, and the public.
The candidate will be responsible for providing drafting services, managing engineering drawings, and maintaining records through a drawing creation, storage and retrieval system.
The candidate will be responsible for providing and maintaining contract drawing printing services.
The candidate will be responsible for supervising and directing subordinate staff, recommending and implementing standard procedures, and providing training programs to upgrade and maintain skills.
The candidate will ensure that employees receive and use the appropriate equipment, material and/or procedures required to perform their assigned duties. The candidate will ensure that all employees work in accordance with applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures. The candidate will recommend appropriate action for employees who do not comply with legislation, policies and procedures.
The candidate will be responsible for performing other assigned duties related to the responsibilities of the position.
Job Requirements The candidate should preferably hold a university degree in Geomatics, GIS, Engineering, or a related technical field of study, or have graduated from a recognized community college with an engineering technologist diploma and be a member of, or eligible for certification with, the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists, with relevant experience related to the duties described gained through extensive work experience.
The candidate must have experience in different types of municipal system surveys, along with advanced technical knowledge and demonstrated expertise in CAD and GIS system architecture.




The candidate should hold a PMP designation or be eligible to obtain the designation, as this is considered a strong asset.
The candidate must have in-depth experience in right-of-way corridor management, utility coordination, road cut restoration contracts, and encroachment governance.
The candidate must demonstrate expert ability in the manipulation and interpretation of survey digital data and have extensive experience working in a computerized environment.
The candidate must demonstrate relevant experience related to the duties described, gained through considerable work experience.
The candidate must possess knowledge of project management theories, practices, and trends to manage large contracts and projects, including reviewing, approving, and implementing work plans and project budgets.
The candidate must demonstrate a highly developed ability to articulate a vision that leads and inspires others.
The candidate must demonstrate highly effective leadership, facilitation, communication, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to effectively manage a large multi-disciplinary staff in a results-oriented and predominantly unionized environment.
The candidate must have experience designing and delivering customer focused programs and services.
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to deal effectively with elected officials, representatives of other levels of government, management, peers, staff, and the general public.
The candidate must possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of statutes, regulations, and by-laws affecting the department/section.
The candidate must possess knowledge of the collective bargaining process.
The candidate must possess knowledge of the working knowledge of computer software applications.
