Job Description Summary
The Methods and Tooling Technical Leader for turbine and generator tooling in North America will focus on leading, guiding, mentoring and developing the local engineering team to perform synopsis, lifting and lashing drawings and associated tooling design (3D, fabrication drawing, calculation note, user manual) for hydro projects in North America.

Responsibilities

Lead, guide, mentor and support the team mainly based in Brossard, performing tooling engineering scope to ensure safe transportation and installation of turbine and generator components and enable optimization of the sequence, time and costs associated to perform installation at site.

Perform himself tooling engineering scope (methods definition & tooling design), including managing urgent topics to support the projects whenever needed

Support the Sub-COE leader to secure the execution of engineering tooling scope, to start and close topics on time and on budget.

Mentor and support Engineers and lead engineers to become effective Main Project Engineers for the organization

Ensure the proper technical follow up of the team. Help define and follow on the load of the team, develop capacity to assign tasks requested by projects and COEs, and help define the priorities balancing people and business needs with the support of the Sub-COE leader.

Take ownership of technical issues, and lead technical actions with project management and experts, participate in decisions making, particularly in case of technical issues.

Share technical expertise inside and outside of the COE Tooling.



Help develop a technical sharing community within the team to help the team to grow (in technical exchange forums, encourage people to prepare some topics to share)

Support Sub-COE leader to meet or exceed business performance plans, attract and retain talented personnel, create a high performing team.

Lead execution reviews with the team on subjects in progress, provide updates in Storms accordingly, follow-up on budgets and elevate when slippages are foreseen, take the lead managing delivery on time with project management (system integrators and project engineering managers).

Establish and cultivate key relationships throughout the technical community to maintain insight into design, installation, operations issues ensuring prompt incorporation of resultant solutions, lessons learned and best practices into methods content

Qualifications / Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering

Member of the OIQ and possibility to get other Canadian Engineering Licenses (Ontario, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, British Columbia) as business needs evolve





Proficiency in French and/or English (spoken and written); The employee will be required to interact fluidly with colleagues in our other facilities across and/or outside of Canada, and who are generally unable to communicate in French and whose language at work is predominantly English.

Ability to travel 10 % of the time to provide support to the team in front of the customer during meetings as required

+10 years’ experience in mechanical engineering with strong experience in design activities of heavy industry components

Experience in leading teams is a plus

Good knowledge of 3D/2D modeling tools, structural calculations tools and capacity to perform complex analytical calculations of mechanical and structural systems

Good knowledge of ASME BTH-1 and ASME B30 standards

Good knowledge of regional EHS regulations (Canada & US)

Good knowledge of Hydro Generators and Turbines products

Significant experience in working within a global matrix environment
