The candidate will be responsible for carrying out steel and/or concrete structural design work.

The candidate will be responsible for carrying out structural analysis work.

The candidate will be responsible for preparing sketches for drafting and assisting in the preparation of drawings.

The candidate will be responsible for reviewing shop drawings and other contractor submittals.

The candidate will be responsible for gathering information to support project needs.

The candidate will be responsible for data processing to support ongoing analysis, design or investigation work.

The candidate will be responsible for carrying out field inspections during construction or field investigations.

The candidate will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of engineering documentation.

The candidate will be responsible for performing various other activities as required to support Engineering staff on their projects.





The candidate will be responsible for participating in high value, multi-disciplinary project work while gaining valuable insight into the organization and implementation.

Job Requirements

The candidate must be enrolled in a Co-op Program and have yet to graduate from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada.

The candidate must have completed a minimum of 3rd year of Civil or Structural engineering studies at an accredited university or institute of technology.

The candidate must have an interest in reinforced concrete and structural steel design.

The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (or equivalent).

The candidate must have a basic knowledge of the principles of the electrical power system.

The candidate must have good analytical skills.

The candidate must have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

The candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills.

Security and safety

The candidate will be required to obtain background check clearance as a condition of employment at BC Hydro. This may include reference checks, education verification, employment verification, criminal record check, drivers abstract review, and a drug and alcohol test.





The candidate will be required to successfully complete pre-employment alcohol and drug testing as a condition of employment for this safety-sensitive position.

Work conditions

The candidate will be required to work at the job location for the Co-op role and will be responsible for making relocation arrangements if necessary.

The candidate may spend some work days in the field in all weather conditions and will be required to travel overnight occasionally.

The candidate will be assigned to one of four role types that determine the degree of flexibility available to work from home based on the type of work performed.

The candidate will work in a Field role with no option to work from home.

The candidate will work primarily in the office, typically 4 or more days per week.

The candidate may be able to work from home for up to 3 days per week in a Hybrid role.

The candidate will perform their work from home for 4 or more days per week under the Work from home model.

The candidate will gain practical, hands‑on work experience directly related to their specific field of study.
