About the Role
Long Term Care – Royal Ottawa Place

Royal Ottawa Place is a 64-bed long-term care facility located at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. It provides a home-like workplace for adults with reliable mental illness and/or physical limitations. The facility is divided into four home areas, each supporting 16 residents, with an average age of 65 years.

Qualifications

Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

Up to 3 months Nursing Experience

Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues

Clear understanding of MHA and relevant legislation

Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice

Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues with specific knowledge about physical/medical compilations related to mental health and addictions

Able to meet the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses

CPR certification within the last 12 months (BCLS at a minimum)





Evidence of continuing professional education

Effective verbal and written communications skills

Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills

Problem solving, leadership and management skills in responding to complex and rapidly changing situations

Sensitivity, skills and experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Preferred:

BScN

Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing

Experience in Mental Health and/or addictions

Membership and active participation in a skilled nursing organization (RNAO)

Knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positioning techniques

Experience in Long Term Care

Clear understanding of MOH LTC standards and relevant registration

Language Requirements
English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset
