About the CLHA
The College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) is a non-profit regulatory organization. The CLHA exists to protect Alberta healthcare users. Our first responsibility is to the public. We regulate the professions of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Health Care Aides (HCAs), setting and maintaining standards to ensure the public receives safe, competent, and ethical healthcare services. Employment Term
This is a full-time permanent position. The position is eligible for hybrid work with a requirement to work in our Edmonton office on a regular basis. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies.
The Role
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Internal Communications Advisor plays a key role in helping employees understand and connect with the CLHA’s mandate, strategic priorities, and organizational culture through clear, engaging communications. Working closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, directors, and subject-matter experts, you will develop and execute internal communication strategies, change management communications, and employee engagement initiatives that keep employees informed, connected, and aligned with organizational goals. As a trusted communications partner, you will provide strategic advice, develop communication plans, and deliver clear and effective communications that supports key business initiatives and organizational priorities. Your work will contribute to a positive and connected workplace where employees feel informed, engaged, and equipped to support the CLHA’s mandate.
Key Responsibilities
- INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS - Develops, implements, and continuously enhances the organization’s internal communications strategy to support the Council’s Strategic Direction, organizational priorities, and key business initiatives. Creates and manages annual and project-specific communication plans that identify target audiences, objectives, key messages, communication channels, timelines, responsibilities, and measures of success. Works collaboratively with departments across the organization to coordinate communication priorities and ensure message alignment. Provides advice on the effective use of internal communication channels and identifies opportunities to improve how employees access, receive, and engage with organizational information. Monitors communication analytics and engagement metrics to evaluate effectiveness, report on outcomes, and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement.
- EMPLOYEE COMMUNICATIONS & ENGAGEMENT - Develops clear and engaging employee communications across a variety of written, visual, and digital formats. Coordinates communications for organizational events by developing key messages, presentations, content, and supporting materials. In partnership with Business Services, supports the promotion of employee engagement initiatives, corporate events, recognition programs, employee onboarding, and internal campaigns that strengthen organizational culture and employee connection.
- EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATIONS - Serves as a trusted communications advisor to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, providing strategic communications guidance and subject-matter expertise for internal communications initiatives. Researches, writes, and edits a variety of executive communications materials, including CEO messaging, staff announcements, speeches, and presentations. Provides strategic advice, writing, editing, and quality assurance to ensure executive communications are clear, consistent, and aligned with organizational priorities.
- CHANGE MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATIONS - Provides communications expertise and strategic guidance to support the communications components of change management initiatives, including technology implementations, process improvements, policy changes, and organizational transformation projects. Collaborates closely with operational leaders and subject-matter experts to identify affected audiences and communication needs, potential impacts, key messages, communication channels, and timelines. Develops communication toolkits, leadership talking points, and employee resources that increase understanding, support engagement, and facilitate successful adoption of change.

The Internal Communications Advisor is an exceptional communicator with a talent for storytelling and a passion for creating engaging employee experiences. They bring strong strategic thinking, organizational planning, and project management capabilities, allowing them to successfully balance multiple priorities while delivering high-quality results. As a trusted partner, they build solid relationships across all levels of the organization and provide thoughtful,
strategic communications advice. They are data-informed, using communication metrics and employee engagement insights to drive continuous improvement. They are known for their sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism, particularly when supporting executive communications and handling sensitive or confidential information. A strong commitment to accuracy, exceptional editing and proofreading skills, and familiarity with plain language writing round out the qualifications needed to succeed in this energetic and impactful role.
Experience
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, corporate communications, or a related field is required.
- Membership in, or accreditation through, the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is considered an asset.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in internal, corporate, or organizational communications is required.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering communications strategies and materials that support executive leadership is required.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communications that support organizational change initiatives is required. Experience working within healthcare, government, or a regulated environment is considered an asset.
- Experience planning and coordinating organizational events and employee engagement initiatives is considered an asset.
- Experience with graphic content creation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva is considered an asset.
Other Qualifications
- Must speak, read, and write English fluently.
- Satisfactory professional reference and criminal record checks.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada.
- Attendance at staff events, meetings, and organizational activities outside of regular business hours may be required.
