Objective and Scope The President will join Providence during a planned leadership transition, working alongside the current CEO to build a comprehensive understanding of the organization before assuming full executive leadership.
Serving as an execution arm of the CEO, this role extends the CEO’s capacity by managing operations and strategic initiatives across the organization. Under the direction and guidance of the Board of Directors and CEO, the President provides visionary leadership and strategic direction while advancing the organization’s mission, vision, values and strategic priorities. The role is accountable for ensuring operational excellence, financial sustainability and exceptional service delivery.
Working closely with the executive team, the President guides strategic direction and oversees the implementation of programs and policies throughout the organization. This includes providing leadership to staff, defining and clarifying objectives, and encouraging high levels of job performance and accountability. As a representative and ambassador of the organization, this position promotes positive relationships and builds strong community partnerships.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- In collaboration with the CEO and board of directors, lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s strategic plan.
- Translate Board-approved strategic priorities into measurable organizational objectives.
- Foster innovation and continuous improvement across all areas of the organization.
- Promote a culture that reflects Providence’s Mission, Vision, Values, and commitment to excellence.
Board Governance
- Serve as an advisor to the Board of Directors.
- Provide timely, accurate, and relevant information to support effective governance and informed decision-making.
- Implement policies established by the Board.
- Support Board recruitment, orientation, committee work, and governance best practices.
- Attend and participate in Board Committee meetings as required.
Organizational Leadership
- Provide leadership, direction, and work collaboratively with the executive leadership team.
- Work in collaboration with the Vice President on all operational priorities.
- Ensure organizational structures, systems, and processes support effective service delivery.
- Establish performance expectations and accountability throughout the organization.
- Regular evaluation of programs and services for quality improvement and best practice.
- Promote collaboration, employee engagement, and a positive organizational culture.
Financial Oversight
- Ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the organization.
- Working with the CFO, VP, and executive managers to develop, implement, and monitor the annual operating and capital budget.
- Oversee financial reporting, forecasting, audits, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Monitor financial performance and recommend strategies to strengthen organizational sustainability.
- Maintain solid relationships with government funders, donors, and funding partners.
Human Resources
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and high-performing workplace culture.
- Ensure effective recruitment, succession planning, leadership development, and performance management.
- Support employee engagement, professional development, and organizational learning.
- Ensure Human Resources policies and practices comply with legislation and organizational values.
Quality, Risk Management, and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, accreditation standards, contracts, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead enterprise risk management practices across the organization. Both governance and operational.
- Monitor organizational performance through quality improvement initiatives and measurable outcomes.
- Policy development and review
- Ensure appropriate insurance coverage and organizational safeguards are maintained.
- Approval and oversight of all contracts, ensuring contractual obligations are followed.
Programs and Services Excellence
- Ensure programs and services align with the organization’s mission and community needs.
- Monitor service quality, outcomes, and client satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with all Alberta Education ECS regulations, mandates, funding and reporting requirements and that the Teacher and Leadership Quality Standards are upheld.
- Lead the development of innovative programs that improve outcomes for children and families.
- Ensure accountability to funders through performance measurement and reporting.
Community Engagement and Resource Development
- The President is an ambassador and spokesperson for Providence.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with government, community organizations, donors, healthcare partners, educational institutions, and business leaders.
- Increase organizational awareness and strengthen Providence’s reputation within the community.
- Working closely with Resource Development to support fundraising, advocacy, and marketing initiatives that advance the organization’s mission.
- Full engagement in all fundraising activities and stewardship.
Requirements
Experience and Education
- Post-secondary education in business, management or related discipline, plus foundational knowledge in child development. An equivalent combination of education and significant relevant leadership experience will be considered.
- Minimum of five years of senior management experience, ideally within a non-profit, education, social services or other people-focused organization.
- Experience leading across multiple organizational functions, including strategic planning, financial management, human resources and operations.
- Experience working with a Board of Directors and supporting effective governance and organizational accountability.
- Proven experience in strategic planning, organizational leadership, financial management, human resources, and facility operations.
- Valid Class 4 driver’s license or ability to obtain within first year of employment.
- Valid first aid certificate and C.P.R. training or ability to obtain within one month of employment.

- Demonstrates accountability, integrity and balanced decision-making, including the ability to make difficult business decisions when required.
