The company is currently looking for applications for the role of Site Supervisor – Fieldcote National Memorial Park and Museum & Giffin House National Historic Site. We are seeking a self-disciplined individual with exceptional interpersonal skills. The chosen applicant will be required to join and begin their duties as soon as possible. This position is a temporary full-time employment opportunity with a duration of 18 months.

The candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing the administration and operation of the sites in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and interpretive plans.
The candidate will build and maintain strong relationships with Black communities, educators, community leaders, artists and creators.
The candidate will be responsible for identifying barriers that affect engagement, museum visitation and program participation among underserved communities and working collaboratively to improve access.
The candidate will be responsible for organizing and coordinating site bookings, rentals, schedules and programming.
The candidate will be responsible for overseeing site staff performance and carrying out motivating, supervising, interviewing, hiring, orienting, training, scheduling, disciplining and evaluating activities.
The candidate will be responsible for collaborating on the development, implementation, management and evaluation of heritage-based learning opportunities in both physical and digital spaces.
The candidate will collaborate in the development of social media content.
The candidate will be responsible for collaborating with the Curator of Collections and Conservator to uphold professional collections management standards at the site.
The candidate will collaborate with HRM staff, stakeholders and community memberships to develop new relationships and nurture existing community connections to the site.




The candidate will collaborate with HRM staff to identify and understand the needs and motivations of residents and visitors to ensure that the Hamilton Civic Museums offer engaging and inclusive visitor experiences.
The candidate will collaborate with the Program Manager Sites and Museums and the Senior Curator Learning and Interpretation to develop engaging, equitable and inclusive interpretive and program content for the sites.
The candidate will collaborate with the Senior Curator, Learning and Interpretation and other HRM staff to coordinate an exhibition program for the sites.
The candidate will be responsible for collaborating with the Program Manager Sites and Museums to prepare and monitor the site’s operational and capital budgets.
The candidate will oversee the monitoring and maintenance of site buildings and grounds, including in-ground archaeological resources and associated capital inventory at the site.
The candidate will ensure that deficiencies in safety/security systems, maintenance issues and damage or losses are reported promptly and that appropriate staff coordinate maintenance issues and work orders with the Heritage Facilities Supervisor.
The candidate will ensure that all health and food regulations, required licenses and safety codes are followed and communicated to staff and volunteers and that relevant legislation, policies, procedures and training requirements are followed.
The candidate will ensure that all employees perform their work in accordance with applicable Health and Safety legislation and City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures.
The candidate will ensure that appropriate corrective action is recommended for employees who do not comply with legislation, policies and procedures.
The candidate will be required to carry out other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements The candidate must have previous museum experience related to the duties listed above,



normally acquired through a Community College Diploma in a museum related discipline or a combination of equivalent education and related work experience.
The candidate must demonstrate an understanding of the diverse experiences and needs of Black communities, including knowledge of relevant events, service agencies, community networks, and strategies, as well as lived experience and familiarity with Black cultures, etiquette, and protocols. The candidate must also have in-depth knowledge of Black history, culture and traditions, particularly in Ontario. Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Black.
The candidate must demonstrate skills and experience in developing heritage-based visitor experiences in a range of formats across both physical and digital spaces.
The candidate must demonstrate supervisory experience, preferably in a museum environment.
The candidate must demonstrate experience building and maintaining relationships, collaborating and co-creating programming and events with community.
The candidate must demonstrate experience in the development, delivery and evaluation of museum and community based public programs and exhibits.
The candidate must demonstrate an understanding of inclusion, intersectionality, gender equality, equity, diversity and social justice issues in a museum context, together with the ability to provide leadership to site staff in these areas.
The candidate must have current knowledge of relevant standards and legislation, including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, the WHMIS System, the Ontario Employment Standards Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians With Disabilities Act.
Work conditions The candidate must be available to work weekends, evenings and statutory holidays as required.
