We are seeking a self-disciplined individual with exceptional interpersonal skills. The chosen applicant will be required to join and begin their duties as soon as possible. This is a full-time Co-Op position.

The candidate will be responsible for assisting with the analysis of earthquake data to support seismic hazard analysis of critical structures.
The candidate will be responsible for enhancing existing workflows for seismic hazard analysis by automating or semi-automating processes such as signal processing and ground motion time series selection and scaling for seismic hazard input in structural analysis.
The candidate will be responsible for migrating existing workflows from MATLAB to Python or R to improve efficiency and flexibility.
The candidate will be responsible for implementing new methods and improving existing processes for ground motion modeling of earthquakes.
Job Requirements
To qualify for the position, the candidate must be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada and must be yet to graduate.
The candidate must have completed at least second-year studies in a Civil, Geological, Geotechnical, Geophysics, or Computer Engineering degree program at an accredited university.
Candidates with strong programming skills in Python and R will be considered an asset.
The candidate must have a solid background in statistical analysis and data processing.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience or coursework in earthquake data analysis or a strong interest in seismic hazard studies.
The candidate must be able to design efficient workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and solve technical challenges.
The candidate must demonstrate self-motivation and a proactive approach to learning and applying new methods.
The candidate must have excellent communication and teamwork skills to effectively contribute to multidisciplinary projects.
Security and safety
The candidate will be required to obtain background check clearance as a condition of employment at BC Hydro. This may include reference checks, education verification, employment verification, criminal record check, drivers abstract review, and a drug and alcohol test.
Work conditions
The candidate will be required to work at the job location for the Co-op role and will be responsible for making relocation arrangements if necessary.
The candidate will be assigned to one of four role types that determine the degree of flexibility available to work from home based on the type of work performed.
The candidate will work in a Field role with no option to work from home.
The candidate will work primarily in the office, typically 4 or more days per week.
The candidate may be able to work from home for up to 3 days per week in a Hybrid role.
The candidate will perform their work from home for 4 or more days per week under the Remote work model.
The candidate will gain practical, hands-on work experience directly related to their specific field of study.
