Retail Manager

Our client is a well-established destination farm market east of Toronto, where thousands of guests come each season for fresh food, local products and a genuinely good experience. They’re looking for a hands-on Retail Manager to help run the Farm Market floor: leading the team, keeping standards high and making sure every guest leaves happy.

Working alongside the Store Manager and General Manager, you’ll own the floor. You’ll set the tone each morning, keep the day organized and be the person the team and the customers look to.

A Day in the Role

- Run the morning huddle with the retail team: priorities, features, what’s changed and who’s where
- Assign daily zones and responsibilities, then keep the day moving as traffic builds
- Schedule breaks and adjust staffing so the floor and tills are always covered
- Support the open and the close, including checklists, cash, settlement and securing the building
- Walk the store regularly, catch what needs attention and fix it before a customer notices

What You’ll Own

Leading the Team

- Lead, coach and motivate the retail team, and set the standard by working alongside them
- Train current staff on service, products and procedures, and keep everyone accountable to the store’s standards
- Handle performance conversations and staffing issues early, and keep the GM and ownership in the loop
- Build a workplace people want to come back to: positive, respectful and well organized

Customer Experience

- Set the tone for service on the floor: greet guests, answer questions and build relationships with regulars
- Watch tills and traffic so no one waits longer than they should
- Resolve concerns on the spot, and make sure children, seniors and guests who need a hand get extra care

Merchandising & Product Quality

- Keep displays full, fresh and attractive all day, from bakery and grocery to frozen, specialty and flowers
- Rotate product, check quality and keep pricing, signage and product origins accurate
- Work with ownership on seasonal displays, sampling and merchandising changes

Store Standards





- Maintain a clean, organized market inside and out, including back-of-house, coolers, washrooms and grounds
- Plan deep-cleaning projects and flag maintenance issues before they become problems

Daily Operations & Inventory

- Complete temperature logs, receive deliveries, maintain inventory counts and minimize waste through proper rotation
- Keep the POS current: pricing, PLUs, new products, and troubleshoot issues as they come up
- Flag shortages and ordering needs, and check scheduled customer orders each morning
- Prepare the store for weekends, holidays and peak season

Communication

- Keep in close contact with the Store Manager, GM and ownership on staffing, inventory, maintenance and guest feedback
- Use Slack and internal systems to keep departments connected
- Keep training materials, uniforms and POS reference sheets up to date, and bring forward ideas to improve the store

What You Bring

- Retail management or supervisory experience (required)
- Grocery, farm market, food retail or hospitality background (an asset)
- Natural leadership: you delegate well, coach in the moment and aren’t afraid of an accountability conversation
- Strong customer-service instincts and a sharp eye for detail
- Organized under pressure, comfortable with POS systems, and quick to solve problems
- Someone who notices what needs doing and takes care of it without being asked The Details
- Full-time, permanent, on-site in Durham Region, east of Toronto
- Weekends required, plus availability during holidays and peak farm seasons
- Opening and closing shifts, with time on your feet indoors and outdoors
