Acht Studio designs and builds modern, contemporary furniture in solid wood and veneered plywood, working almost entirely with interior designers on high-end residential homes and cottages across Canada. Single pieces run $5,000 to $30,000, and full projects can exceed $200,000. We're a small team of makers who care about craft, not a production line — every piece is built to endure, with the kind of joinery and finish work that holds up for decades, not seasons.

About the Role

This is a senior seat on the shop floor. You're taking complex solid wood pieces from shop drawings through to a finished, client-ready product with minimal oversight, and you're one of the people the rest of the team comes to when something doesn't go according to plan.

What You'll Do

- Build solid wood furniture from shop drawings and cut lists, from rough stock to finished piece
- Select, mill, and match solid wood for grain, colour, and stability
- Work through custom joinery, curves, and one-off problems that don't have a standard playbook
- Hold a high standard of fit, finish, and tolerance on every piece you touch
- Collaborate with the shop lead and the rest of the team on sequencing and problem-solving
- Keep your bench and machines clean and in good working order
- Help in the delivery/install of furniture pieces

What We're Looking For

Required:

- 7+ years building solid wood furniture in a custom furniture shop where every piece you make is different from the last




- Comfortable working from shop drawings with minimal direction
- Strong hand and machine skills in solid wood joinery, milling, and finish prep
- A track record of solving problems on the fly, not just following a fixed process
- Reliable transportation to our shop in Moonstone, Ontario

Preferred:

- Experience with veneer work or shop-made veneers
- Experience in wood bending and power carving
- Experience in the application of Rubio-Monocoat, Osmo and other hand applied finishes
- Drafting
- CNC operation
- Time spent in a designer-driven or high-end residential shop

Skill gets you in the door. What we actually want is someone who loves building furniture, takes real pride and ownership in their work, and wants to stick around and grow with us. We're investing in a bigger shop, and a bigger team over the next few years, and we want people who are in it for the long run.

Compensation & Hours

$30–35/hour, based on experience. Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm, with occasional overtime when a project needs it. We don't currently offer a perks package.

Our Hiring Process

All applicants that meet our requirements will be invited for an interview.

Successful interview candidates will do a paid 4–5 hour practical test day in the shop. It's the best way for both of us to know it's a fit before committing.

Final hiring decision will occur after all practical tests are complete.
