About Kids Developmental Services

Kids Developmental Services (KDS) is a community-based private Early Childhood Services operator funded by Alberta Education. We provide early childhood education to children between the ages of 2 years 8 months and 4 years 8 months. Programming is developmentally appropriate and occurs in the child's natural environment.

Alberta Certificated

Teachers coordinate the child's team which may include a Developmental Assistant, Speech-Language Pathologist, Speech-Language Assistant, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, Psychology Support Specialist, Behaviour Strategist and/or a Family Connection Coordinator.

Certificated Teachers write the child's Individualized Program Plan (IPP) and accommodations and strategies are provided by the therapists on the child's team. Additional programming is offered in the child's home, and in community play groups.

Position Details

We are seeking enthusiastic, dynamic and passionate Speech-Language Assistants for our early childhood intervention programs in Calgary. Speech-Language Pathology Assistants work closely with Speech-Language Pathologists and provide daily support to assigned children. Working in collaboration with the Educational Coordinator, Early Education Team, child's family, as well as their preschool or child care centre, the Speech-Language Assistant implements IPP goals to meet the identified and individual needs of each child on their caseload.

Responsibilities and required skills include (but are not limited to)

- Implementing developmentally appropriate activities, strategies,



and accommodations to address IPP goals in the child's natural and play-based environment;
- Providing support to children during community play sessions, programming in the home, and online, if required;
- Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and taking direction from Speech-Language Pathologists;
- Documenting children's progress.
- Provide treatment based on the Speech-Language Pathologist's goals, make and develop materials and activities, document and report results, carry out screenings, maintain equipment, and assist with clerical duties as directed by the Speech-Language Pathologist.

Qualifications and Requirements

- Post-secondary education as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant is preferred; or equivalent work experience is an asset;
- Experience and compassion working with children with diverse learning needs is preferred;
- First Aid and CPR certification is an asset;
- Two professional and one personal reference is required;
- Current Police Clearance and Vulnerable Sector check;
- A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle;
- A willingness to travel between locations.
