Black Press Media has an opening for a full-time, permanent Multimedia Journalist in Vernon The successful candidate will be joining the largest multimedia reporting force in British Columbia. Black Press employs journalists across the province, generating news content for highly competitive and expanding digital platforms, and longstanding print products.

The North Okanagan news team is driven by a digital-first mandate, which maintains a local focus on news, events, and issues in the communities. This position is based in the Vernon Morning Star newsroom supported by an Editor and a Bureau Chief in an Editorial hub that involves 16 community-based publications in the Interior region.

The successful candidate will have:

- Outstanding writing skills for print and web.
- A demonstrated ability in covering breaking news in an online workplace.
- Experience providing community news and events coverage.
- Excellent skills in driving website traffic and audience engagement through superior multimedia news content generation, including SEO and UGC strategies.
- Advanced knowledge of photography is preferred, along with video shooting and editing experience.
- The ability to adhere to deadlines and take direction while contributing original story ideas.
- The ability to thrive in a deadline-oriented environment and is keen to learn and develop their skillsets.




- The successful candidate must be a team player and have an innovative mindset. They should be able to multi-task, write using CP Style under quick deadlines and feel confident in executing meaningful storytelling in a complex digital publishing environment.

Applicants must hold a formal journalism degree or diploma. Broadcast training and experience are distinct assets.

A valid driver’s licence, reliable vehicle and a smartphone are mandatory. Candidates must be able to legally work in Canada.

The starting rate for this position is $23.87/Hour
