Position OverviewReporting to the VP, Operational Services, the Manager, Facilities & Building Operations is responsible for ensuring Inn from the Cold’s buildings are safe, functional, well-maintained, and welcoming for families, staff, and visitors.
This is a hands‑on leadership role that combines facilities management, light maintenance work, contractor coordination, and team supervision. The successful candidate will oversee a growing team of janitorial and facilities staff, manage day‑to‑day building operations, coordinate preventative maintenance, and support front desk building operations through oversight of the Front Desk Building Liaison (FDBL) team schedule and coverage.
We are looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, rolling up their sleeves when needed, and building a strong service‑oriented team.
This role participates as a member of The INN’s Leadership Team and contributes to the overall leadership and works collaboratively to ensure Inn from the Cold achieves its mission.
This is a full‑time position, some evening/weekend hours may be required, depending upon needs.
What You’ll DoLead and develop a growing team of janitorial, facilities, and building operations staff.Perform and coordinate minor repairs and maintenance, including painting, drywall patching, replacing light fixtures and bulbs, minor plumbing repairs, and other general maintenance tasks.Conduct regular building inspections and identify maintenance, safety, and security concerns.Manage a facilities work order system and prioritize maintenance requestsCoordinator contractors and specialized trades for larger repairs and projectsEnsure all buildings, grounds, equipment and systems remain safe and in positive working orderSupport and develop the Senior FDBL Lead in day‑to‑day team leadership and decision‑makingEnsure FDBL staff have the training, equipment, and support needed to safely carry out their dutiesOversee ongoing operations, maintenance, building access and security systems of The INN’s facilitiesSupport the VP, Operational Services in managing the HomeSpace partnership at NeomaOwn and maintain the facilities work order system: prioritize and triage incoming requests, assign tickets to the appropriate technician, monitor resolution timelines,
and report on ticket trendsSupervise and coordinate projects and tasks with the Facilities CoordinatorConduct regular walkthroughs of all INN facilities to note and address maintenance needs, safety issues, and potential security risksFunction as a point of contact to the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and Health & Safety LeadEstablish and manage the schedule for safety drills in coordination with HomeSpaceEnsure RFID and access card security protocols are followed;
support investigation of security incidentsAssist with monitoring mechanical equipment;
establish and manage third‑party service providers, including scheduling inspections and regular maintenance of building systemsSecure quotes and work directly with VP approved contractors;
monitor work quality and schedule, conduct final inspection, and document deficienciesAct as landlord of record for Journey House, ensuring compliance with the Alberta Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) and all applicable landlord obligationsProvide support to the Front Desk Administrator role as requested to ensure operational building responsibilities are attended toParticipate in development and review of policies and procedures relating to the Operations areaManage Budget for the Operations area

What You Bring to Our Mission3-5 years of experience in facilities, building operations, property management, maintenance, or a related field.Experience supervising janitorial, maintenance, or operational staff.Knowledge of building systems and preventative maintenance practices.Ability to perform minor repairs independently, including:
painting and drywall repairs;
Replacing light fixturesand bulbs;
Unclogging toilets and sinks;
Basic carpentry repairs;
Assembling and repairing furniture and equipment.
Experience coordinating contractors and external service providers.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage work orders, schedules, and multiple priorities.Minimum valid Class 5 operator's license, with documentation showing at least 3 years of driving experience and insurance historyWorking knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA)
and landlord responsibilities is preferredFirst Aid skills / certification are considered assetsHighly motivated, able to work independently;
exhibits initiative, responsibility, and attention to detailAbility to multi‑task and establish priorities across two distinct functions, and work well under pressureWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Outlook email and calendarFamiliarity with Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Standards, FOIP and other privacy legislationWillingness to complete all Inn from the Cold required training;
adheres to The INN’s Code of Conduct, policies, standards, guidelines and expectationsWilling and able to respond to after‑hours emergencies and urgent team needs
