Job Summary

Intermodal Heavy Duty Mechanics perform major and minor repairs, overhauls and servicing on all types of vehicles, vehicle attachments and material handling equipment. This position requires you to work night shifts and partial weekends, as required.

Main Responsibilities

- Inspect, service and maintain Intermodal cranes, terminal tractors, vehicles and equipment, in accordance with federal and company regulations, including changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts.
- Diagnose diesel / gas engine, electrical, hydraulic, driveline malfunctions and making required repairs. Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment and other vehicle repair tools and equipment, and operate said tools and machinery in a protected and effective manner.
- Use measuring devices and understanding visual displays.
- Repair various yard equipment machinery.
- Prepare inspection, maintenance, and work reports,



and record details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures.

Working Conditions

- Ability to work irregular shifts, including evenings, midnights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.
- Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, performing overhead work, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds (22 kg).
- Shop environment, ability to work inside shop and outside shop in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to work at heights up to 60 feet.
- Comply with safe work procedures and policies.
- Respirator use is required for certain tasks, with periodic audiometric testing and respirator fit testing conducted as needed

Experience

- Diesel mechanic, Automotive, Truck & Coach, Hydraulics experience.

Education/Certification/Designation

- High School diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED).
- Diploma of Vocational Studies in Heavy Duty Mechanic.
- Valid driver's license.

Technical Skills/Knowledge

- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Technical knowledge of diesel mechanics. Qualified 310T/421A mechanics.
- Possess your own tools sufficient to perform repairs and service on small equipment. Tools specific to the railway are supplied by the company.
- Must meet all medical fitness for duty requirements for the position, including requirements for Safety

Additional Information (If Any)

The Heavy Duty Mechanic must complete all training sessions as directed by the company. A successful completion of this training is essential for future performance of duties.
