Summary of Duties

The HFC System Designer is capable of productive RF system design for CATV networks for various types of projects consisting of new builds (Single Family Unit – SFU / Multi Dwelling Units – MDU), forced relocates, rebuilds, upgrades and extensions. Design projects are executed using client provided software and include forward and reverse paths and powering.

General Duties

- Attends site to determine scope of work, existing architecture as well as project needs and constraints. May be with or without a Client representative present.
- Designs and provides guidance to other designers to execute complex powering, coaxial and multiplexing designs.
- Updates RF and/or Fibre Design databases and maintains system maps including base map, cable, fiber routes, addresses & RF design including commercial, SFU, MDU, FTTC, FTTX, FTTB node profiles & powering data.
- Executes system design by gathering information from site visits.
- Provides drawings and details in both CAD based platforms and other media to determine and display design criteria.
- Incorporates field and as-built changes from draft prints to the system database.
- Determine method to design the plant changes with minimal impact to the system/customer and minimize related construction cost and ensures quality of design.
- Able to teach, train and lead a small group of designers.
- Works closely with GIS, CAD Staff, Project Coordinators and other internal resources to execute projects within a timely fashion, whilst maintaining budgetary restraints.

Qualifications

- Minimum of 3+ years working with HFC and Fiber networks, including FTTC, FTTF, Segmentation and other uplift / rebuild of Hybrid-Fiber-Coax Networks.
- Detailed working knowledge of SpatialNet and other platforms.
- College Diploma or higher.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and other GIS / Spatial platforms.
- Professional verbal/written communication and supervisory skills, with a track record of handling customer concerns effectively.
- Self-motivated and adaptable with the ability to prioritize tasks,



manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Meticulous attention to detail in tracking daily progress, technical documentation, and record-keeping.
- Knowledge of technical standards for the design of the outside network (poles, broadband technology, fibre and copper cables) would be an asset.
- Own vehicle as travel to site daily may be required.
- Valid G license and clean driving abstract.

Working Schedule & Location

- Monday to Friday (8:30 AM to 5:00 PM)
- Half hour lunch (Unpaid)
- Hybrid Position, with travel to site.

Hourly Compensation Range: $25 – 30 CAD

This role is a hybrid work arrangement, with mandatory travel, and may require regular reporting to one of our office locations across Ontario. *Individual pay is determined based on several factors, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope o the role.
