Join the Island Furniture team as a Furniture Sales Consultant and help customers create comfortable, functional, and beautiful spaces in their homes.

Island Furniture Association is a not-for-profit social enterprise that has served Newfoundland and Labrador since 1979. We provide quality home furniture while creating meaningful and inclusive employment opportunities within our community.

In this role, you will welcome customers, learn about their furniture needs, recommend suitable products, and guide them through the purchasing process. You will also follow up on sales opportunities, build lasting customer relationships, and contribute to individual and team sales goals.

We are especially interested in candidates with furniture or home-furnishings sales experience. However, we also welcome applicants with strong retail, customer-service, or consultative sales experience who are motivated to learn and grow.

Responsibilities

- Greet customers warmly and use thoughtful questions to understand their furniture needs, style preferences, budgets, and timelines.
- Recommend products that suit each customer’s home and needs while providing a comfortable, pressure-free sales experience.
- Present furniture products and explain their features, functions, materials, care requirements, pricing, and value.
- Guide customers through product selection, quotations, order completion, payment, and delivery arrangements.
- Follow up promptly and professionally on customer inquiries, quotations, and sales opportunities.
- Build positive customer relationships that encourage repeat business and referrals.
- Work toward individual and team sales goals.
- Process sales transactions and customer payments accurately.
- Enter and maintain customer, sales,



payment, and order information using the company’s ERP system.
- Respond professionally to telephone and in-store inquiries about products, pricing, promotions, and availability.
- Maintain current knowledge of products, promotions, pricing, and inventory.
- Assist with showroom staging, merchandising, restocking, and product demonstrations.
- Work with warehouse, delivery, and logistics teams to support accurate and timely order fulfilment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing showroom.
- Share Island Furniture’s social mission and community impact with customers.
- Perform other related duties based on operational needs.

Experience and Qualifications

- Previous retail, customer-service, or sales experience is preferred.
- Furniture, mattress, appliance, home décor, or other consultative sales experience is a strong asset.
- A genuine interest in helping customers make confident purchasing decisions.
- A friendly, approachable, and professional communication style.
- Robust listening and relationship-building skills.
- Motivation to achieve sales goals and follow up on customer opportunities.
- Familiarity with ERP, point-of-sale, inventory-management, or customer-management systems is an asset.
- Strong organization, reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.




- The ability to learn product information and explain it clearly to customers.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a close-knit team.
- Flexibility to work a retail schedule that includes weekends.
- The ability to assist with showroom demonstrations and staging, including occasional furniture handling, with reasonable accommodation where required.

Product and systems training will be provided. What matters most is a strong customer-service mindset, a willingness to learn, and the motivation to succeed.
