Who This Role Is For
This opportunity is well suited to an experienced CNC laser operator who is comfortable working independently in a job shop environment.
You should be comfortable with regular setups and changeovers, following CAD layouts and cut files, completing nesting, monitoring cut quality and troubleshooting routine operating issues.
Hands-on CNC laser cutting experience is required.
What You Will Be Doing
- Set up, adjust and operate CNC laser cutting equipment.
- Access jobs, CAD layouts and work instructions and load the required files into the laser software.
- Complete nesting and verify programs, files and machine settings before running jobs.
- Load and unload material and finished parts.
- Perform startup and shutdown procedures.
- Complete first-off and in-process quality checks.
- Monitor cut quality and identify machine, tooling or quality issues.
- Use measuring equipment including calipers and tape measures.
- Troubleshoot routine machine errors and operating issues.
- Perform basic machine care, cleaning and preventative checks.
- Use a forklift to move material and jobs throughout the shop.
- Assist with material handling and other shop tasks as required.
- Occasionally assist with local deliveries using a company vehicle.
What We're Looking For
- Previous hands-on CNC laser cutting experience.
- Experience with laser setup and job changeovers.
- Experience with nesting.
- Ability to follow CAD layouts, cut files and established work instructions.
- Strong attention to quality and finished-part condition.
- Practical machine troubleshooting ability.
- Forklift experience.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Reliable transportation.
- Comfortable with physical material-handling work.
- Dependable, team-oriented approach and willingness to help where needed.
Nice to Have
- Mazak laser experience.
- CO2 laser cutting experience.
- Previous job shop or custom fabrication experience.
- Robotics, automation or programming exposure.
Robotics or automation experience is not required for this position, but it may be useful for someone interested in developing toward broader automation work over time.
Schedule and Work Environment
- Day shift: 8:00AM-4:30PM
- Occasional overtime as required.
- Clean, heated shop environment.
- Shop is not air conditioned during the summer.
- Steel-toed safety footwear required.
