Good People, Good Food. Do you love healthy, organic products? Want to work in a fun environment that helps you grow and thrive? Come to work at Nature's Fare Markets.
The Human Resources team supports the success of Nature’s Fare Markets and Choices Markets, our people, and our customers through thoughtful, consistent, and values-based HR programs, services, and processes. We are people-first, detail-oriented, and collaborative, and we work closely with our stores, leaders, and support teams to help create an employee experience that is fair, engaging, and grounded in care.
We are looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join us on a 6-month contract to support a maternity leave. This full-time role is based in person at 19580 Telegraph Trail in Surrey, BC, and is a great fit for someone who enjoys the operational side of HR, brings strong administrative follow-through, and also wants to contribute to meaningful, proactive HR work across the business.
This role will support day-to-day HR administration, employee documentation, recruitment coordination, leaves, reporting, employee relations support, and manager guidance, with an important focus on supporting the Choices Markets portfolio. It will also involve consulting with store leaders and banner leaders during a period of significant change, helping ensure our HR processes remain consistent, responsive, and people-focused.
Job Details
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources and working as part of a collaborative HR team, you will provide broad generalist support across our retail locations, with a key focus on the Choices Markets portfolio, as well as Head Office teams and operational leaders.
While this role includes a significant administrative component, we are looking for someone who can bring organization, sound judgment, and initiative to both the day-to-day work and the bigger-picture HR needs of the business.
Supporting Team Members and Leaders
- Act as a responsive HR resource for Store Managers, Department Managers, and Head Office leaders, providing guidance on employee questions, employment processes, and people-related matters.
- Support leaders with employee relations matters, including attendance, performance concerns, workplace conduct, coaching conversations, and progressive discipline documentation.
- Help leaders navigate people decisions with consistency, confidentiality, and care, escalating complex or sensitive matters as appropriate.
- Build trusted working relationships with stores and operational teams by providing practical, timely, and solution-focused HR support.
HR Administration and Documentation
- Prepare, issue, and maintain employment documentation,
including offer letters, employment letters, wage and position changes, promotion documentation, and termination-related paperwork.
- Maintain accurate employee records, onboarding checklists, personnel files, and related HR documentation.
- Coordinate employment status changes with Payroll and other internal stakeholders, including leaves of absence, ROEs, wage updates, vacation payouts, and offboarding requirements.
- Support benefits administration, employee eligibility reviews, employee referral tracking, recognition lists, and general HR reporting.
Recruitment, Onboarding, and Workforce Support
- Support recruitment coordination, including job postings, hiring documentation, offer letters, onboarding materials, and communication with Store Managers.
- Assist with onboarding processes to ensure new team members are set up accurately and managers have the information they need.
- Prepare and maintain workforce reports related to new hires, terminations, transfers, promotions, training requirements, benefits eligibility, and other HR metrics.
- Contribute to process improvements that strengthen consistency, visibility, and follow-through across HR workflows.
Leaves, Return-to-Work, and Accommodation Support
- Coordinate leave of absence administration, including documentation, communication, tracking, and Payroll coordination.
- Support gradual return-to-work and accommodation processes by working with employees, managers, Payroll, and other stakeholders.
- Help ensure return-to-work plans are documented, communicated, and implemented in alignment with company processes and employment standards.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when supporting sensitive employee situations.
Proactive HR Partnership and Change Support
- Support the HR team and business leaders through periods of significant change by helping communicate processes, clarify expectations, and maintain consistency across locations.
- Provide practical HR support to Choices Markets store and banner leaders as they manage evolving operational needs.
- Identify opportunities to improve administrative workflows, documentation, manager support tools, and communication practices.
- Contribute to a people-first HR approach that balances compassionate support with explicit expectations and accountability.
About You

- You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
- You communicate clearly, warmly, and professionally, with a practical and solution-focused mindset.
- You are comfortable supporting managers through sensitive employee matters and know when to ask questions or escalate.
- You are proactive and curious, with the confidence to identify gaps, suggest improvements, and help move work forward.
- You thrive in a collaborative, in-person team environment and enjoy being part of a people-focused workplace.
