Job Description

The Service Writer/Maintenance Foreman keeps the Unrau Livestock repair shop running day to day. This role coordinates work orders and invoicing, leads the technician team on the shop floor, and helps ensure efficient workflow, high-quality repairs, safety compliance, and adherence to industry standards in quality and biosecurity. The Service Writer/Maintenance Foreman reports to the Director of Biosecurity and Maintenance. The role is split roughly 75% hands-on shop work and 25% office work, so strong time management is a must. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

- Coordinate work orders and invoices

◦ Create work orders for technicians to complete

◦ Review each completed work order and convert each work order into an invoice for the trucking department

◦ Schedule upcoming services/repairs according to importance

- Lead the shop floor

◦ Oversee and direct technicians’ day-to-day work; train where needed

◦ Oversee and evaluate each technician’s productivity





◦ Monitor and have a good handle on shop hours and overtime

◦ Support the technicians’ well-being

◦ Contribute to completing services and repairs with the team

- Maintenance and repairs

◦ Oversee preventive maintenance, in-house repairs, and interior/exterior fabrication across the fleet

◦ Ensure safeties on trucks and trailers are completed

◦ Coordinate outsourcing of overflow and technical repairs

◦ Track and keep defects up to date

◦ Ensure safety and compliance are met on all units

- Communication

◦ Serve as the point of contact between technicians, other departments, other shops, and vendors

- Facility and inventory upkeep

◦ Oversee yard maintenance

◦ Maintain shop cleanliness

◦ Oversee inventory upkeep

◦ Pricing and purchasing parts

◦ Oversee the bedding dock

- Bake bay support

◦ Assist with the pull bake schedule for shuttle truck drivers

◦ Monitor and assist with daily trailer bakes

◦ Help maintain bake bay equipment

- Track weekly KPIs

Qualifications

- Red Seal certification as a heavy-duty/truck-trailer technician required
- Ability to complete safeties (CVIP inspections) on trucks and trailers
- Proven experience leading people — training, coordinating, and holding a shop team accountable
- Strong time-management skills; able to balance hands-on shop work (~75%) with office duties (~25%)
- Strong organizational skills; comfortable working with shop software such as Fleet Soft and Motive
- Clear, professional communication skills for coordinating across departments and with vendors
- Valid driver’s license

Compensation

Starting at $35.00 per hour, based on experience
