Location: Walkley Road and St Laurent Blvd, Ottawa

Are you looking for a hands-on production role where attention to detail and quality matter?
We are seeking an Associate Technician (Surfacing) with perferred optical lab experience in lens edging, mounting, drilling/grooving, frame handling, quality inspection and troubleshootingto join a busy production environment specializing in the manufacturing of prescription eyewear.

We're looking for candidates who enjoy working with equipment, small components, and precise production processes.

Your main challenges

- Daily cleaning of equipment and workstation
- Calibration of all machines as needed and ensure that machines are all operational
- Remove the lenses from packaging, compare the packaging to the fabrication order.
- Apply surface saving tape on the convex surface by using the automatic taping machine;
- Block lenses, manually associate jobs and load generator;
- Polish lenses and Prepare lenses for quality control check (de-block, wash, dry, and inspect for scratches);
- Organize the flow of production in order to achieve the daily operation targets
- Follow-up on rush jobs and take the necessary measures to make sure that these jobs are meetings the turn-around-time
- Make an inventory of consumables when requested and communicate the need to order material to the supervisor
- Other job duties as required;




- Utilizing the blocking machine to accurately secure a block to all lenses going through the surfacing department. You'll operate taping equipment to apply protective tape to the front of the lenses.
- Operating the equipment used to fine and polish all lenses going through the surfacing depart.
- Hand washing and drying lenses followed by a brief cosmetic inspection of the lenses. You'll grasp lenses with a de-blocking cup and strike it against the table to remove block from lenses, and also remove tape from lenses.

Your profile

- If you have experience, great! If not, that’s ok too…we will train you.
- Job experience will be considered in place of High school diploma or GED.
- Proficient in English (ability to read, write, and speak fluently).
- Manufacturing experience a plus.
- Must be able to walk/stand for full duration of the shift.
- Ability to adapt to change;
- Be able perform repetitive movements with upper and lower extremities.
- Manual dexterity;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced workplace and work on various tasks simultaneously;
- Must be detail and precision oriented;
- Must be able to regularly lift 10 pounds.
