Job Summary

The OR/MDR Service Worker supports protected, efficient, and patient-centred operations across clinical and non-clinical areas at River Cree Weiss Surgical Care + (RCW). This role involves direct patient contact, contributing to overall facility readiness through patient transport, environmental support, equipment handling, and assistance to the interdisciplinary team.

The Service Worker plays an important role in promoting patient comfort, maintaining safety standards, and supporting smooth patient flow throughout the surgical experience.

Patient Transport & Flow Support

· Safely porter patients to the Operating Room in accordance with patient identification and transfer protocols.

· Transport patients from the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to the Extended Stay Unit or designated area as directed by clinical staff.

· Assist with patient discharge transport, including escorting patients to their vehicle or designated pick-up location.

· Support safe patient transfers using appropriate mobility aids and techniques in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards.

· Communicate any observed patient concerns or changes in condition promptly to nursing staff.

Operating Room & Procedure Room Cleaning

- Perform change over cleaning of operating rooms and procedure rooms between cases in accordance with RCW environmental cleaning protocols.
- Clean and disinfect surgical equipment surfaces, operating tables, lights, anesthesia carts, monitors, and high-touch areas using approved cleaning agents and techniques.
- Apply approved healthcare cleaning methodology by cleaning from least contaminated to most contaminated areas, beginning at the outer perimeter of the operating room and completing cleaning of the operating table, anesthesia work surfaces, and other high risk contact points as the final step.
- Remove waste, soiled linens, and disposable materials safely and in accordance with infection control standards.




- Prepare rooms promptly to support safe and efficient surgical workflow and case turnover.

Environmental & Facility Support

· Assist with cleaning, disinfection, and preparation of patient care areas, operating rooms, recovery spaces, and clinic areas as assigned.

· Support room turnover processes to maintain procedural flow and readiness.

· Ensure hallways, storage areas, and patient care spaces remain organized and free of hazards.

· Assist environmental services staff as required to maintain facility cleanliness and infection prevention standards.

Equipment & Supply Handling

· Transport equipment, supplies, specimens, and documentation between departments as directed.

· Assist with stocking and replenishing designated supply areas.

· Communicate low stock to the Senior CPSM.

· Support set-up and removal of non-clinical equipment required for patient care or operational activities.

Patient Comfort & Dignity

· Provide courteous, respectful assistance to patients and families during transport and while navigating the facility, adapting communication to meet the cultural, linguistic, and emotional needs of each person.

· Support patient comfort measures within scope of role, such as providing blankets or assisting with wayfinding.

· Maintain patient privacy and dignity at all times.

Safety, Quality & Professional Accountability

· Follow all Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) practices including hand hygiene and safe handling of equipment and materials.

· Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety policies including safe lifting, transfer techniques, and hazard reporting.

· Participate in emergency response processes as directed within the scope of role.

· Comply with all applicable RCW policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· A high school diploma.

· Proof of a valid Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification.

· Knowledge of basic infection prevention and workplace safety principles.





· Ability to manage patient transport and support tasks accurately and responsively during active surgical and clinical days.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

· Previous experience in healthcare support services, patient transport, community, family, or informal caregiving settings.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

· A competitive hourly wage will be offered to the successful candidate based on experience and skills. At the end of the probationary period a comprehensive benefit and insurance package will be provided to full time and part time employees.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

· Must be able to perform the physical functions of this role including providing patient transport and portering, assisting with patient transfers and mobility, sustained walking and standing, and safe handling of equipment.

· You may be required to work days, evenings and weekends.

· The successful candidate must provide a criminal record/police information check as well as a vulnerable sector check (at their own expense).
