Role Overview

We have an immediate, active opening for a Sr. Avionics Systems Engineer in Montreal, QC.

In this role, you will be primarily responsible for defining, developing, and authoring rigorous avionics system requirements in accordance with client engineering standards and civil certification processes. You will collaborate across multidisciplinary flight physics, avionics subsystems, and safety engineering teams to ensure end-to-end traceability and testability across complex aircraft platforms.

Key Responsibilities

- Requirements Engineering & Authoring: Develop and author clear, unambiguous, and testable avionics system requirements in alignment with client engineering processes, standards, and structured templates.
- Stakeholder & Safety Decomposition: Translate high-level customer operational needs, safety assessments, and aircraft-level architectures into verifiable system functional and performance requirements.
- Traceability & Verification Alignment: Establish and maintain robust bidirectional traceability between aircraft functions, system architecture, subsystem requirements, interfaces, and verification test cases using formal requirements management tools.
- Certification Compliance: Ensure all authoring and lifecycle processes comply with aerospace system development standards (notably SAE ARP4754A / ARP4754B and applicable DO-series guidelines).
- Requirements Quality & Peer Reviews: Lead and participate in technical peer reviews and validation exercises to guarantee requirement completeness, correctness, and adherence to established style guides.




- Subsystem Technical Focus: Coordinate functional requirements across core avionics domains, including:
- Flight Management Systems (FMS) & Navigation
- Air Data Systems (ADS) & Inertial Reference Systems (IRS)
- Datalink Communications (CPDLC, ACARS) & Radio Navigation
- Head-Up Displays (HUD) & Cockpit Display Systems

Required Qualifications & Experience

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Aerospace Domain Background: Minimum 8+ years of dedicated systems engineering experience within the civil or military aerospace sector.
- Avionics System Expertise: Hands-on experience developing or integrating avionics subsystems such as FMS, Radio Nav, Datalink, HUD, Air Data, or IRS.
- Process & Standard Knowledge: Working knowledge of SAE ARP4754A (Guidelines for Development of Civil Aircraft and Systems); familiarization with DO-178C, DO-254, and DO-160 workflows is highly desirable.
- Tools Proficiency: Experience working in structured requirements capture environments (such as IBM DOORS or Jama Connect).
- Communication: Solid technical writing, analytical decomposition skills, and cross-functional communication abilities in English (French proficiency is an asset).
