Survey Data Technician

Jakes Construction Ltd. is looking for a Survey Data Technician to join our Survey team.

This role supports our heavy civil construction projects by turning field survey information into accurate drawings, surfaces, models, stakeout files, machine-control data, and other technical deliverables.

We’re open to candidates with experience in surveying, construction, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, drafting, engineering technology, geomatics, or another related technical field. You do not need to come to us knowing every part of the role - if you have related experience, have used AutoCAD or similar software through work, school, or personal projects, or have a strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn, we encourage you to apply.

What You'll Be Doing

- Process and manage survey data from GNSS, total stations, and data collectors.
- Work with Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and related software.
- Build surfaces, DTMs, and 3D models for construction staking and machine control.
- Prepare stakeout files, cut sheets, and machine-control files.
- Complete QA/QC checks on survey data and drawings.
- Assist with quantities, volumes, earthworks calculations, and as-built documentation.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, design models, and survey information.
- Work closely with field crews, project staff, and the Survey Manager.
- Maintain organized survey records and project files.
- Provide occasional field support as required.

- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and reliable transportation.

Experience that would be helpful, but is not required:

- AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other CAD/drafting software.
- Surveying or survey data processing.
- Civil construction, earthworks, roadbuilding, or underground utilities.
- Engineering technology, geomatics, or drafting.
- Trimble Business Center, GNSS, total stations, or related survey equipment.
- Quantity takeoffs, volumes, as-builts, GIS, or drone/RPAS data processing.
- Survey, geomatics, civil engineering technology, or related education.

You do not need to check every box. We’re interested in candidates who have the right technical aptitude, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.

This position is primarily office-based, with occasional visits to active construction sites and some field support as required. Overtime may occasionally be required depending on project needs.

Pay: $65,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
