Job Title 1: Camp Counselor for Adults with Disabilities

Location: Sonshine Cove, (Depart from Orleans ONT)

Job Type: Weekend Contracts. 1-2 weekends per month, March Break: March 15–19, 2027

About Us: Our camp is a fully accessible overnight camp situated in the picturesque Notre Dames Du Laus. It is dedicated to providing a joyful and inclusive experience for adults with disabilities. Sonshine Cove is a haven for fostering personal growth, building meaningful connections, and creating cherished memories. We are currently seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals, starting from the age of 16, to join our team as Camp Counselors for the upcoming Fall and Winter season and for March Break. Our upcoming weekend dates where we are looking to fill staffing are:

- October 2–4 2026
- October 22–24 2026
- November 20–22 2026
- December 11–13 2026
- March Break: March 15–19, 2027

The weekend sessions run from 4:30p.m. Friday to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, with staff generally working 1–2 weekends per month based on their availability. Transportation is provided from our Orleans office to Sonshine Cove in Notre-Dame-du-Laus. Staff stay overnight at camp and are provided with accommodation, meals, and snacks during the session.

At this time, we are particularly interested in applicants who are available for our March Break camp from March 15–19, 2027. There will also be additional weekend opportunities available beginning in January.

Position Overview: As a Camp Counselor at Sonshine Cove, you will have the opportunity to play a vital role in creating a positive and inclusive environment for our campers. NOTE: This is an overnight position, we are physically away at the camp and staff sleep overnight in shared accommodations. Counselors will be actively involved in supporting campers with disabilities, adapting activities to individual needs,



and contributing to the overall success of the camp experience. Some campers may require help with personal care, however, full training will be provided before counselors complete any personal care tasks.

Responsibilities:

- Provide direct support and assistance with personal care needs for campers with disabilities.
- Foster a positive and inclusive community where every camper is valued and celebrated.
- Help to deliver camp activities such as arts and crafts, karaoke, dance nights, side-by-side rides, indoor/ outdoor games and more! Seasonal activities such as, hikes, boating, swimming, snow shoeing etc.
- Collaborate with camp director to create an accessible and engaging camp experience.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting independence and self-advocacy.

Qualifications:

- Minimum age requirement of 16 years old.
- Passion for working with adults with disabilities in a camp or similar setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Compassion, patience, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of campers.
- G2 or Higher Drivers License (strongly preferred)
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- CPI certification (Provided by Sonshine)
