About Fortress
Fortress Construction is a civil, concrete and industrial contractor that has operated since 2007 and works across Western Canada. We self-perform earthworks and concrete on oil sands, midstream and petrochemical sites, as well as on commercial building and community infrastructure projects.

The Role
Fortress is hiring an Equipment Operator for our civil crews, starting immediately. The work covers bulk earthworks and detailed excavation around foundations, buried utilities and operating facilities. You will work as part of a 4 to 8 person crew and report to the Civil Foreman. When equipment is not required, you will support the crew with pipe installation, compaction, grade checks and general site work.

Responsibilities

- Operate excavators (mini to 35-ton class), dozers, wheel loaders, packers, skid steers and articulated rock trucks. Grader experience is an asset.
- Clear, grub and strip sites, and complete mass excavation, cut/fill and grading to design elevations.
- Place, moisture condition and compact imported fill in lifts to meet specified density.
- Excavate and backfill foundations, pile caps and tank ringwalls.
- Trench, bed and backfill water and sanitary services and manholes.
- Construct ditches, swales, riprap and erosion control,



and prepare parking and pad subgrade, subbase and base.
- Work around buried utilities under ground disturbance permits, in coordination with hydrovac crews.
- Complete daily pre-use inspections, routine equipment servicing and FLHAs.

Qualifications

- 5+ years operating equipment on civil or industrial sites, with proficiency on excavators and dozers.
- Ability to hold grade using a laser, rover or machine control.
- Valid Class 5 licence. Class 1 or 3 is an asset.
- CSTS/CSO, WHMIS and Ground Disturbance Level 2. H2S Alive and First Aid are assets.
- Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol and fitness testing.
- Willingness to travel and work 10 to 12 hour days on rotation.

Compensation and Conditions

- $40.00-$47.00 per hour, based on experience.
- Overtime at 1.5x after 8 hours per day or 44 hours per week.
