Kids Developmental Services (KDS) is a community-based independent Early Childhood Services operator funded by Alberta Education and Childcare. We provide early childhood services to pre-kindergaten aged children. Programming is developmentally appropriate and occurs in the child's natural workplace. Alberta Certificated Teachers coordinate the child's team which may include a Developmental Assistant, Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Child Behaviour Specialist, Behaviour Therapy Assistant and/or a Therapy Assistant.
Alberta Certificated Teachers write the child's Individualized Program Plan (IPP) and accommodations and strategies are provided by the therapists on the child's team. Additional programming is offered in the child's home and in community play groups.
Position Details
This position is for Central and North Calgary. We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and passionate Therapy Assistant for our early childhood intervention programs in Central and North Calgary. The Therapy Assistant works closely with the Speech-Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapist and provides additional support to assigned children. Working in collaboration with the Education Coordinator, Kids Developmental Team, child's family, as well as their preschool or child care centre, the Therapy Assistant implements IPP goals to meet the identified and individual needs of each child on their caseload.
Responsibilities and required skills include (but are not limited to)
and accommodations to address IPP goals in the child's natural and play-based environment;
- Providing support to children during community play sessions, programming in the home, and online, if required;
- Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and taking direction from the Speech-Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapist;
- Documenting children's progress.
- Providing treatment based on the Speech-Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapist's goals, making and developing materials and activities, documenting and reporting results, carrying out screenings, maintaining equipment, and assisting with clerical duties as directed by the Speech-Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapist.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Post-secondary education as a Therapy Assistant is preferred; or equivalent work experience is an asset;
- Experience and compassion working with children with diverse learning needs is preferred;
- First Aid and CPR certification is an asset;
- Two professional and one personal reference is required;
- Current Police Clearance and Vulnerable Sector check;
- A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle;
- A willingness to travel between locations.
