Senior Accountant

Position: Senior Accountant
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Controller / Director of Finance / Ownership
Company Type: Private Company

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to manage and support the company's day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on full-cycle accounting experience and strong working knowledge of Sage 50 Accounting.

This is a hands-on position suited to an accountant who is comfortable taking ownership of accounting processes, maintaining accurate financial records, meeting reporting deadlines, and working independently in a private-company environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesFull-Cycle Accounting

- Manage all aspects of full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries.
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records in Sage 50.
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Maintain general ledger accounts and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Record prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, depreciation, and other adjusting entries.
- Maintain intercompany accounts and reconcile intercompany transactions where applicable.
- Review accounts payable and accounts receivable aging and follow up on outstanding items.

Month-End & Year-End

- Manage and complete the month-end closing process within established deadlines.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including:
- Balance Sheet
- Income Statement
- General Ledger reports
- Supporting schedules and reconciliations
- Review financial results for accuracy and identify unusual transactions or variances.
- Prepare year-end working papers and supporting schedules.
- Coordinate with external accountants and provide documentation required for year-end financial statements and tax filings.

Payroll & Government Remittances

- Assist with or oversee payroll processing and payroll reconciliations.
- Prepare and reconcile payroll-related accounts.
- Prepare and submit applicable government remittances, including GST/HST, PST,



payroll source deductions, and other required filings.
- Assist with preparation of T4s and other annual reporting requirements.

Financial Reporting & Controls

- Prepare timely and accurate internal financial reports for management and ownership.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow reporting.
- Monitor financial transactions and identify discrepancies, errors, or unusual activity.
- Maintain appropriate accounting procedures, documentation, and internal controls.
- Recommend improvements to accounting processes and financial reporting.
- Ensure financial information is properly organized and readily available for management review.

Additional Responsibilities

- Maintain organized electronic and physical accounting records.
- Communicate with vendors, customers, financial institutions, government agencies, and external accountants as required.
- Support management with financial analysis and special projects.
- Assist with accounting for multiple companies or related entities where applicable.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as required.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum 3 years of full-cycle accounting experience is required.
- Minimum 3 years of practical accounting experience in a private-company environment preferred.
- Strong working experience with Sage 50 Accounting is required.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and general ledger accounting.
- Demonstrated experience with month-end reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and government remittances.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.




- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA designation or progress toward a CPA designation is considered an asset but is not required.
- Experience working with multiple corporations or related companies is an asset.
- Experience with intercompany accounting and reconciliations is an asset.
- Experience preparing financial reporting packages for management or ownership is an asset.
- Experience working directly with external accountants during year-end is an asset.

Experience Requirements

Required:

- Full-Cycle Accounting: 3+ years
- Sage 50 Accounting: Hands-on experience required
- Month-End Accounting: 3+ years preferred
- Microsoft Excel: Solid proficiency required

Compensation

Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.

This position is intended for an experienced accountant who can independently manage full-cycle accounting responsibilities and provide accurate, timely financial information to management.

Pay: $55,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
