Role Description

We are looking for a motivated individual for the position of 5G/4G RAN Test Engineer to join our wireless engineering team and support the validation, integration, and troubleshooting of LTE (4G) and 5G NR Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions. This is a contract role in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada.

The ideal candidate will have solid hands-on experience in RAN testing, cellular protocols, test execution, log analysis, and troubleshooting across LTE and 5G networks. You will work closely with R&D;, system engineering, integration, and customer teams to identify issues, reproduce failures, and drive problems to resolution.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform end-to-end testing of RAN features across UE, gNB/eNB, Core Network, and transport/network components to validate new software and hardware.
- Interface with both internal and external customers to provide technical support for RAN hardware/software.
- Troubleshoot and assist in root cause analysis of software- and hardware-related issues
- Support lab/FOA testing and validation of new hardware and software.




- Assist with customer problem investigation and support all facets of resolution on-site / customer lab.
- Accept tasks and problems/situations that differ, requiring creativity to search for optimal solutions, when only broad and general guidelines exist for solving problems.
- Proven ability to interact at multiple levels within internal & customer organizations.
- Ability to achieve results within established time frames and requirements.

Qualifications

- A firm/expert working knowledge of 5G(SA/NSA), LTE and VONR/VoLTE, IMS SIP, EPC/NGC.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Wireless Communications, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of 3GPP LTE and 5G NR architecture and protocols.
- Good knowledge of RRC, NAS, PDCP, RLC, MAC, and PHY protocols.
- Hands-on experience with 5G NR SA and/or NSA testing, log analysis and E2E network understanding.
- Experience with RF testing, RF KPIs, and basic wireless performance analysis.
- Experience with LTE/5G mobility, handover, carrier aggregation, dual connectivity, and basic RAN performance testing.
- Have experience/knowledge of lab/field testing and T&M; tools like XCAL, and XCAP.
- Deep understanding of LTE, VoLTE, 5G-NSA & SA call flows with the ability to understand and analyze traces (PCAP, eNB/gNB traces), UE, and Core networks.
- Experience with Linux, TCP/IP, UDP, IPv4/IPv6, VLAN, routing, and basic IP networking.
- Programming/scripting knowledge in Python, Shell, or similar languages is a plus.
- Self-motivated individual to get things done and report the daily testing status to the reporting manager/team.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams in different time zones.
- Should be familiar with bug reporting tools like JIRA, etc.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
