About OpenTrain
OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role and the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. OpenTrain helps contributors discover cutting-edge projects, build their profiles, and apply in minutes.
- Remote contract work with a part-time schedule
- Expected commitment of less than 20 hours per week
- Projected project duration of 3 to 6 months
- Hourly pay range of $80 to $130 USD
About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts create, review, and evaluate high-quality examples that help AI systems produce more accurate and reliable results. In this project, your engineering judgment will help assess and improve AI-generated solutions for aerodynamics and computational fluid dynamics.
- Apply specialist engineering knowledge to practical AI training tasks
- Review technical reasoning, calculations, and engineering outputs
- Help establish clear standards for modeling and verification
The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking an Aerodynamics Expert to create, solve, review, and validate reproducible aerodynamic and fluid-dynamics tasks. You will work with geometry, meshes, CFD solvers, Python automation, and engineering analysis while evaluating whether proposed solutions are numerically sound and physically valid.
This intermediate-level contractor role is designed for professionals or researchers with robust fluid mechanics and applied aerodynamics knowledge. Work is conducted in English and requires the ability to independently explain technical decisions.
- Subject area:
computational fluid dynamics and aerodynamic engineering
- Role type: part-time contractor
- Pay: $80 to $130 USD per hour
- Expected availability: less than 20 hours per week
- Project length: approximately 3 to 6 months
What You'll Do
You will develop and assess engineering tasks that can be reproduced, solved, and reviewed systematically. Your work will combine CFD execution, Python-based workflows, aerodynamic analysis, and careful technical validation.
- Prepare geometries and meshes for aerodynamic simulations
- Set up solver-ready CFD cases and execute simulations from the command line
- Use Python for automation, scripting, parameter sweeps, and analysis
- Postprocess pressure, velocity, forces, moments, lift, and drag
- Conduct mesh-independence studies and engineering sanity checks
- Compare simulation outputs with reference results
- Review AI-generated engineering solutions for correctness and reasoning quality
- Diagnose convergence, numerical, and physical validity issues
- Justify modeling assumptions, boundary conditions, mesh strategies, and solver settings
- Define and apply clear verification criteria
Requirements
Applicants should have an MS or PhD in Aerospace Engineering,
or a Mechanical Engineering degree with a specialization in aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, or thermofluids. Alternatively, applicants may qualify with a BS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and at least 1 to 2 years of relevant professional or research experience.
You must be comfortable applying fluid mechanics and aerodynamics principles, working with CFD, and using command-line, scripting, configuration-file, or other programmatic engineering tools. Practical Python proficiency is required.
- Robust knowledge of fluid mechanics and applied aerodynamics
- Relevant computational fluid dynamics and aerodynamic engineering experience
- Practical proficiency with Python
- Experience with CFD workflows and solver execution
- Ability to independently evaluate modeling assumptions and simulation validity
- Ability to discuss relevant Aerodynamics Expert experience
- Fluent English proficiency
Who Should Apply
This opportunity is suited to aerospace and mechanical engineering professionals, researchers, and technically strong practitioners who can combine aerodynamic theory with reproducible computational workflows. It is especially relevant for contributors who enjoy examining how engineering models are built, solved, and validated.
- Candidates based in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Algeria, or Germany
- Contributors comfortable working in English
- Applicants with intermediate-level experience in aerodynamics or CFD
- Professionals or researchers able to commit under 20 hours per week
