The successful candidate MUST consent to:

- Obtaining and maintaining a valid Health Canada medical for seagoing personnel. Note: A valid Transport Canada Seafarer’s medical may be accepted on initial appointment for a period of up to a maximum of 6 months or until a Health Canada Medical is completed.
- Maintaining a valid certificate of competency
- Being deployed within the assigned region, if required
- Going to sea for prolonged periods of time and in adverse weather conditions
- Travelling by land, air or sea
- Wearing and maintaining Canadian Coast Guard standard uniforms, safety footwear and personal protective equipment
- Working overtime, when required
- Compliance with the Canadian Coast Guard Safety Management System and Standards
- Holding a valid Canadian Passport or Permanent Resident Card, if applicable (required for some positions)

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS - STREAM 1 Occupational Certification:

- OC1: Valid Transport Canada STCW Certificate of Competency, 2nd Class Engineering Motor Ship
- EX1: Experience as Senior Engineer or Chief Engineer on a vessel with minimum 2000-3000 kW. Note: Senior Engineer is the Engineer next to the Chief Engineer in the line of authority. Sometimes referred to as 2nd Engineer.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS - STREAM 2 Occupational Certification:
- OC2: Valid Transport Canada STCW Certificate of Competency, 1st Class Engineering Motor Ship
- EX2: Experience as Chief Engineer on a vessel with minimum 3000+ kW

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:
- AEX1: Experience as Senior Engineer on a Canadian Coast Guard Class F (1100 class) vessel or higher
- AEX2: Experience as Chief Engineer on a Canadian Coast Guard Class C (Hero Class) or higher
- AEX3: Experience as Chief Engineer on Canadian Coast Guard Vessels Class F (1100 class) or higher
- AEX4: Experience in managing a Preventative Maintenance System
- AEX5: Experience in planning, developing and implementing specifications for vessel modifications, emergency repairs or refit/drydockings
- AEX6: Experience working in a shore position relating to Coast Guard Operations
