Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Financial Accountant at MakeShift.
The Financial
Accountant will prepare and analyze financial statements, maintain general ledger accounts, and support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. This role will handle financial reporting, reconcile accounts, and ensure accurate, timely entry of financial data in accounting software.

Accountant will collaborate with cross-functional teams on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, and assist with audits, compliance requirements, and process improvements. The role also involves identifying opportunities to enhance financial controls, reporting efficiency, and data quality to support decision-making across the organization.
Responsibilities
Month End Close and Financial Reporting
- Prepare the monthly close in QuickBooks Online, including journal entries, accruals, prepaids and reclassifications, for review by the Controller
- Prepare the P&L; and balance sheet review package and budget to actual reporting
- Prepare year end working papers and support the Controller and our external accountants
- Support finance, investor and audit information requests with reconciled reports and documentation
Revenue Recognition and Billing
- Maintain deferred revenue schedules in USD and CAD and reconcile them to the general ledger each month
- Run customer invoicing, accounts receivable and collections, including usage based billing, renewals, price changes and cancellations in line with contract terms
- Reconcile invoiced and recognized revenue to the contract and CRM records maintained by Revenue Operations each month, and flag differences for resolution
- Calculate, record and reconcile partner channel revenue in line with partner agreements, including monthly reconciliation of partner marketplace reporting to our records
Payables, Payroll Support and Commissions
- Calculate quarterly commissions against compensation plans for Controller review
- Maintain organized, version controlled financial records
Requirements
- Three to five years in accounting, ideally including time in a SaaS or recurring revenue business
- CPA candidate or enrolled in the CPA program is an asset
- Hands on experience with month end close and reconciliations; experience with deferred revenue or multi currency books is a strong plus
- Comfortable working with CRM data
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills: lookups, pivots and schedules that tie out
- High attention to detail and discretion with confidential financial information
- Self starter who is motivated to work independently in a remote setting
- Candidates should possess strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a remote environment.
