Duties

Maritime Search and Rescue Coordinators provide an invaluable service to people in need of assistance on the federally controlled waterways. They oversee the activation, planning and coordination of maritime search and rescue (SAR) with the assistance of strategically located Canadian Coast Guard SAR vessels, Royal Canadian Air Force resources and partners such as police, fire and emergency medical services.

Work environment The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is a special operating agency within the Department of National Defence (DND). We work to ensure the safety of mariners in Canadian waters and protect Canada’s marine environment. We support Canada’s economic growth through the secure and efficient movement of maritime trade.

We help to ensure our country’s sovereignty and security through our presence in Canadian waters. The CCG proudly serves 243,000 kilometers of Canada’s vast and rugged coastline, the longest coastline of any given country, and is one of the few federal agencies that provides direct, front-line services 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Intent of the process The purpose of this inventory is to create a pool of pre-qualified and/or qualified candidates that will be used to fill Maritime Search and Rescue Coordinator within the Canadian Coast Guard, Central region. Please note that a retrieval of candidacies will take place in October 2026.

Consequently, we strongly encourage you to complete your application and submit it before this date in order to be part of the next group assessed. All subsequent retrievals of applications will occur based on operational needs.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

- Maintain a valid Health Canada occupational health evaluation.
- Requirement to work on a rotating shift schedule to support 24/7 service delivery.




- Requirement to work overtime.
- Requirement to respond to call-backs.
- The completion of the following two courses within 12 months from appointment to the position in addition to the appropriate On-Job-Training program is mandatory:
- Maritime Search Planning Course (MSP)
- Search and Rescue (SAR) Mission Coordinator Course (SMC)

- The completion of the following course within a timeline that is operationally feasible:

- SAR Mobile Facilities/On-Scene coordinator Course (SMF/OSC)

- Requirement to wear and maintain a Canadian Coast Guard uniform in accordance with Canadian Coast Guard uniform manual.
- Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics - Canada.ca, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector- Canada.ca, Directive on Conflict of Interest- Canada.ca et DAOD 7021-1, Conflict of Interest - Canada.ca.

EDUCATION

ED1: A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives*.*The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are: A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

AP1: Watchkeeping Mate certificate or Watchkeeping Mate, Near Coastal certificate of Competency issued under the CANADA SHIPPING ACT, 2001 Marine Personnel Regulations SOR/2007-115 (or equivalent*).*Equivalent as determined by Transport Canada’s Regulations for equivalency.

EXPERIENCE

EX1: 12 months sea time experience as a navigation officer in charge of a watch OR Equivalent experience as per article 106(2)(C)



of the Marine Personnel Regulations (SOR/2007-115);

OR

EX2: 12 months experience as a maritime coordinator in a Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) or Marine Rescue Sub-Centre (MRSC) in Canada;

OR

EX3: 12 months experience in Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) operations centre*.

*Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) operational centre means, CCG Regional Operations Centre (ROC), CCG Marine Communications and Traffic Services (MCTS), CCG Marine Security Operations Centre (MSOC) and CCG National Command Centre (NCC).

KNOWLEDGE

KN1: Knowledge of maritime search and rescue practices and procedures.
